Loon-A-TiK
ok. i have this problem of shaking like a leaf. i do it all the time. everyone notices it and asks if i've had something to eat and if i'm ok. i used to blame it on Adderall, but i haven't had adderall in awhile, so i can't blame it anymore. i take WB, Abilify, and Lamictal. i used to take inderal but it didn't help. none of the beta blockers i've tried have helped. i still shake like crazy. could it be the WB? oddly, my problem was about half as bad before i started adderall, which was why i blamed adderall. now i don't have any (until i get my patient assistance back), so it must be something else. help! what do you think? null0trooper
ok. i have this problem of shaking like a leaf. i do it all the time. everyone notices it and asks if i've had something to eat and if i'm ok. It depends on the "kind" of shaking, and that's really hard to explain. "Intention tremor" is a Parkinson's sign, so it's possible that it's an AP-induced extra-pyramidal symptom. The one time I know my dopamine levels crashed into "shaking like a leaf" territory, my mood was stone cold sober in a bad way (Try calling a friend for help when your jaw's trying to lock into place - not good for one's general outlook) Shakiness/tremor can also be a symptom of low blood sugar. When I can't hold my hand out flat and still, it's usually time for a sugar fix. Then there are tics. Just about any psych med or neuro/psych issue can make them pop up. Myoclonus is usually symptom of too much serotonin Then there's Too Much Coffee jitters and Well the Noradrenergic Med Just Hit My Bloodstream jumpiness And of course there's the remote chance of partial seizures, with Wellbutrin being the usual med to blame, but many medications (and stress, and blood sugar levels, and too little sleep, etc.) can also lower a person's seizure threshold. That's just off the top of my head. It's something you'll have to talk to a doctor about, and s/he's going to have to see or feel the shaking in progress. An EEG can go far in ruling out seizure activity, but that leaves a wide field of causes ranging in severity from "get over it" to "let's discuss options"
olga
Loon, I remember CrazySoprano saying that Wellbutrin made her shaky. You might look at her threads. I think she said that her doctor was going to have her reduce her dose until the tremors stopped. It's a great AD, but some people do get some adverse side effects. olga
Velvet Elvis
Since you had neuroleptic induced EPS on another AAP, my money is on that.
sun_zoom_spark
Yep, Abilify has a really bad rep for akathisia and other EPS symptoms. I tried it on two occasions and had terrible akathisia @ very small doses. It's a very unique drug, an atypical atypical anti-psychotic. A few people get a lot of benefit from this drug but you have to be in the elite class that can tolerate it's activation. SZS
Zippy
I just started WB a few weeks ago and I noticed my hands aren't as steady when I'm doing my makeup. It's just a slight shakiness I've noticed in my hands and I am only on a low dose, so I haven't really been too concerned. Could that be the culprit? If starting the WB is the only thing you've changed during the time that the effect first appeared, then it does seem likely.
meg
this is maybe a little hi-jack of me, but I started shaking with the addition of Lamical. I'm at 100mg now and I noticed it back at 25mg..my hands are soo shaky always now, often my legs too-- they're trembly like my knees are going to give out sometimes. Is that weird? I know it's an anti-convulsant so this makes no sense to me. Lamical is the only thing that has changed-- possible? weird? thanks, goodluck finding your shake out loon! I can relate :-P meg
papertrees
I've been kind of shaky too. Especially when I do purposeful movements like anything that requires alot of force. I shake alot. It's like it's eternally cold, and I shake like a leaf, as you said. I'm on abilify, lamictal and prozac. So I really can't tell which is the culprit, but I started shaking only after the addition of lamictal, so it could be that.
Loon-A-TiK
i ran it by my pdoc, and he said we can run some tests, but he thinks it's one of my meds. he just doesn't know what one! it's a small trade though for feeling better. i shake, like you said papertrees, like it's freezing outside or something. i've made sure i've been eating regularly and i still shake. sometimes it's dangerous because i'm in the shower and i could fall or i'm trying to paint (bad idea with shakes anyway), but overall it's worth it. people think i'm a little odd for the shaking, and ask me, as i said, if i'm ok. i can't write or hold a spoon sometimes. i will have them look me over to make sure it isn't something else, but he thinks it the meds. papertrees
Let me know what your doctors say as I'm interested as well. I want to know what's causing me to be like this too. Perhaps it's the combo of lamictal and abilify?
Thomas
My arms/hands and legs were always shaking and I was extremely restless. My pdoc thought it was the Abilify so she had me start taking Cogentin to help the shaking stop. It works, but I can't take my morning dose until I'm at work, because it does interfere with my driving. It takes about and hour to kick in for me. Translation: "Girlfriend, the last time you were on a so-called 'atypical' antipsychotic - or was it the time before that? I can't keep track - you moved like Michael J Fox without his meds OR his money. That just wasn't happening, was it? Maybe you should be looking at that before getting your new 'do wired for sound." Loon-A-TiK
i have had this problem on other atypicals, so maybe that's it? i just have reactions to atypicals? seroquel was the worst! inderal, as i said, doesn't help. i'm interested in what my pdoc concludes. i'll remind him that i've had past problems on other meds. maybe we can pin abilify? more shaking. great. as herrfous would say, it sure is sandy around here! ChemistryExperiment
Also, Loon, I know that when I'm on geodon alone I don't shake, and when I'm on haldol alone I don't shake but when I take them together, I shake. Maybe its a combination of the WB, Lamictal, and Abilify. It could be one of them, but it could just be that when taking them together your body doesn't handle that too well. Just a thought.
