would anyone think about trying this?

Recommended Posts

Suppose your depression is very much complicated because you had two episodes where going off a drug, made you feel worse than before you were on it; ie it exacerbated your depression. and suppose this did not go away. However, I did go off the two drugs (lexapro and cymbalta) cold turkey which was obviously very stupid.

So even if it's been a while would you try going back on the drug and then tapering off very carefully?

you see I really feel these two episodes are the reason I'm not better right now, cause I did find some drugs I responded to but it's like I was left so bad, they weren't nearly enough. So would anyone recommend doing this?

I wouldn't. It sounds to me like you're playing with fire and should talk to a competent pdoc. Then let him/her supervise your AD use. And if drugs are working, stay on them.

Going cold turkey off an AD is a terrible idea which you obviously know. How is getting off a med and then tapering off of it going to improve your depression? Maybe I'm just confused by your question, but ADs don't really work like ibuprofin.

If you've had two episodes of depression and are currently depressed, my advice would be to get on a med that you respond to and stay on it.

If it's been a few weeks or longer, your problem isn't the way you d/c'd, IMHO. It's that you are depressed. Work with a pdoc who listens and values quality of life. If you've already been thru two depressions and are working on your third, as remote swimmer says, find a med that works and stay on it. Sorry, not the answer you want, but denial will just get you more depressed years.

sorry guys, didn't make that post too clear

this has all been one horrible, unbearable depressed episode that has lasted over two years

like I said going off two drugs made me worse and I stayed that way, but I did try prozac and risperdal at the absolute bottom and I felt a significant effect from them but all they did was take me back to about how I was feeling before those two withdrawal episodes! very frustrating

I have a very strong suspicion if not for those episodes I'd be fine right now so I guess I'm just looking for any way to undo what happened, and I was hoping maybe if I went back on the drugs the negative effect would go away and it would stay that way if I tapered off properly...if that makes any sense

If those meds were working for you, then returning to them might help. Yet, you abruptly discontinued. If that was because they weren't working, then no, you'd be wasting your time. Also, going on to taper off slowly is NOT apt to make any difference. I don't think that's at all a solution.

Are you on any meds now?
