Withdrawal from Zeldox (Geodon)

Recommended Posts

Hi, I didn't think I would, but I'm experiencing withdrawal from Zeldox (which is Geodon in the US). I have a massive headache and, interestingly, I'm experiencing the electric shivers like you do with SSRI withdrawal. I'm serious!! It's awful, like there's a blip in the time/space continuum every now and again, and when I move I get that awful shudder throughout my nervous system. All spaced out and I look like shit apparantly. I went down from 140mg one day, to 40mg the next, then nothing. I've got clonazepam and seroquel on PRN here so I'm going to hassle a nurse for some. I just took some paracetemol but it's doing jack shit.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Began taking 5mg of Abilify this morning. Will see how that goes. but grrrrrrrrrrr

aaaah not just me eh.

I'll tell my shrink about your comments today.... she thinks crazyboards is pretty cool for feedback... o' course it is!

I just woke up (7:32am) not that long ago. Still feel like shit. Wish I could have panadeine or nurofen plus but there's addiction problems there. Just this damn pain.

Hi,

I just started taking Zeldox two weeks ago. I felt really bad yesterday. The drowsiness was bad for the whole two weeks but after an increased dose Tuesday night it got much worse, I fell asleep all morning. Then last night I had the shakes, uncomfortable feelings and restlessness so bad that I decided to stop taking it. I skipped my dose last night. Today my shaking is absolutely awful, but my head is clear and back to normal. Feel really edgy. Hope this doesn't last too long. Anyone know how long the withdrawal symptoms last? I've got nothing to alleviate the symptoms. Going to ask for some valium or clonazepam tomorrow. Failing that I will ask for seroquel.

[ive started taking Zeldox and it was making me sick when I first started taking it. So i was taking half the dose which was not prescribed by me doctor. After a few days I started experiencing this electric pulses in my head. Its like a brain twitch, sometimes when it happens I feel a huge twitch in my hand or foot and it combines with the head. Been having this problem for a while..

You should work this out with your doctor. Geodon may not be the med for you. BUT, working with your doc is the way to deal with it.

Withdrawal from Zeldox is absolutely awful. I have a lot of the same symptoms all you have had. This is the second time I've quit taking it, and I think it will be my last.

geodone is the worst med i have ever been on.. within 3 days of talking it i could not sit still and i was nauseous all the time. the first night i took it i was up all night and i couldnt sleep at all. Then on the third day i said fuck it and stopped cold turkey which i thought was fine because i was only on it for 3 days.. oh was i in for a surprise! hours after i did not take it my whole body was killing me in pain.. i was so dizzy..and sweating non stop.. i could not leave my bed. Then i started to get wht felt like electric shocks in my head..so horrible.. i thought i was loosing my right mind. The my heart rate started to sky rocked and i was rushed in to the ER.. my heart rate was 200..which is insane im only 20 years old female and i have a tiny build..my whole body was shaking and my teeth were chattering.. my hands were ice.. and my blood pressure was off the rocker..they gave me fulids and gave me 3 meds thru the IV and put me on a heart monitor..it was the worst night of my life.. i felt like i was goin to die..and the worst is i was so confused i felt like my head was not working at all. these are strong meds and i really would not reccommend geodon to anyone..it almost killed me.

Yeah, they are but for some people, it's what works.

What may not be right for you, may be right for some.

I should have had my evening but havnt yet, and was wonderingthis was why I was feeling slightly 'stoned' like light headed dizziness, and This headache which seems to radiate down to my neck and shoulders... Better take my zeldox I guess, on a more positive side I believe I was only able to get through an entire day without falling off the side of the earth halfway through, I was able to think about what I needed at the shop and remember to sequence things properly because of zeldox.

Yep I got the shivering but I'm not cold when I miss a dose. This must be a pretty powerful drug but it works for me. No headaches though.

Well, it's good to get an idea. I took Geodon for 10+ years without side effects, now I'm going off it because my doggone insurance company would only give me 30 days of it. I am waiting for a Prior Authorization Request to be filed. I've had headaches (only 1 capsule a day for two days), but not like migraines I have experienced. I am wondering what will happen tomorrow morning when I don't get that am dose.

Just for background purposes, I was up all night the first time I missed an evening dose, had a few headaches, but not even bad enough to treat, slept great the second night. Tonight will be the first night without for 24 hours. I have my book to read if I can't sleep, but worry how I might perform tomorrow.

I have been diagnosed and medicated with/for schitzophreania 3 and a half years ago. I took 160 mg's of zeldox, 80 in morning and 80 at night, for 2 years straight before I was finally sick of not being able to think or live life. After much argument with my doctor he finally agreed to slowly take me off the meds. I had 3 weeks to a month and a half between drops. The withdrawals were light, some dizziness and withstandable symptoms. That went on for almost a year until I hit the lowest mg pill and had to drop my morning med. That was absolute hell. The tremors were full scale, causing extreme body aches and intense echoing of sounds and distortions of visual space. I spent the majority of the month and a half fetal position in my bed. I've been both a cocaine and morphine addict at different times in my life and this definitely tops both of those put together. Because my doctor thinks I'm a hypochondriac, he won't give me any medication to help me through this, so I've been reduced to relapsing back into drugs twice.

My next wave of withdrawal starts tonight, any suggestions to help me avoid relapsing again? I am going to get a new doctor but any suggestions on things that help and do little damage?

If you plan on quitting zeldox safely, expect to go through at least a year of agonizing withdrawals and anxiety
