Ssri Equivalency table

Can't find one on the net. The benzo chart is out there but if your switching from one ssri to another what dose do you start at with the other one? I can't find a chart to help me out? For example, I went from 12.5mg lexapro to 75mg zoloft. The zoloft I've been on 5 weeks and having a hard time so thinking about going back to paxil I was on once before but don't know whether to start out at 10 on the paxil or 20. What is the equivalent dose of paxil in relation to 75mg zoloft?

I've never seen an SSRI equivalency chart.

The benzos are compared based on their primary (and just about sole) use which is anxiety.

Comparing the SSRI's could get pretty complex. What use do it base it on? Depression? anxiety? intrusive thoughts, dissociation, OCD, etc? You get the idea. Probably the easiest is to just list the manufacturers "typical adult dosage" or dosage range. I'll take a look later tonight. It would be a nice thing to have.

best, a.m.

Shouldn't your DOCTOR know this??

Your post makes it sound(to me) as if you were self medicating from some private stash!

Pretty much. I've been seeing the same doc for 8 years and we've tried every ssri out there. In fact, when I go in I usually request what I want to try. He know's I am pretty familiar with meds and I switch myself if something isn't working then when I run out I tell him what I did. Paxil is pretty much my next choice and I have couple refills at the pharmacy so really not much need to see him if I do decide to switch. I can pretty much guess 15mg of paxil will be close to 75mg zoloft but was wondering if anyone was familiar with a equivalency chart out there.

This is from the crazymeds site:

If you need to switch, here are the equivalents: 20mg [link=http://www.crazymeds.us/celexa.html" target="_blank]Celexa[/link] (citalopram hydrobromide) = 5mg [link=http://www.crazymeds.us/lexapro.html" target="_blank]Lexapro[/link] (escitalopram oxalate) = 50mg [link=http://www.crazymeds.us/luvox.html" target="_blank]Luvox[/link] (fluvoxamine maleate) = 20mg [link=http://www.crazymeds.us/paxil.html" target="_blank]Paxil[/link] (paroxetine hydrochloride) = 20mg [link=http://www.crazymeds.us/prozac.html" target="_blank]Prozac[/link] (fluoxetine hydrochloride) = 50mg [link=http://www.crazymeds.us/zoloft.html" target="_blank]Zoloft[/link] (sertraline hydrochloride) = 75mg of [link=http://www.crazymeds.us/effexor.html" target="_blank]Effexor[/link] (venlafaxine hydrochloride).

Based on my experience having tried most of these meds, this is more or less accurate where these are generally accepted starting doses--although I'd say that it would probably be 10mg Lexapro. 75mg Zoloft would likely be about 20-30mg Paxil.

However, you should really talk to your pdoc and sort this out. If you are on a low dose, you can generally switch from one SSRI to another (my pdoc has done that with me in the past), but if your brain is suddenly getting less serotonin reuptake, then you can have discontinuation symptoms which suck.
