mel1
I have lost about 25 lbs. of my wt. gain from seroquel when i was on Abilify. I am now back on Seroquel because I couldn't tolerate Abilify. Seroquel does wonders for my anxiety. My pdoc put me on 50 mg. a day, taken at night. I'm wondering if anyone who has gained weight on seroquel did so on large doses, is it dose dependent, I don't want to gain wt. but i already feel like i've gained a couple of pounds since going back on it and it's only been a week and i was taking 100 a day. 50 in the am and 50 at night. Any comments welcome. Oh, btw, no I dont exercise because i am too busy sleeping from the seroquel making me so sedated. I love sleeping, but i'm going back to work soon and they don't usually let you sleep there!
borzage
I take 100mg a day, and I haven't gained any weight from it. For a long time I was on 125 per day, and for a few months it was up to 300 per day. Never gained any weight from Seroquel and I've been taking it for almost 2 years. I should add that I have a pretty healthy diet/lifestyle and I don't eat for emotional reasons, if that would make a difference. How much do you sleep on Seroquel? Does it effect your eating habits? mel1
I sleep more during the day, but i don't eat more and i"m not gorging on carbs. It seems like my body is blowing up and i've gained 3 lbs in a week without eating more. I'm either going to try exercising or just stop taking an ap altogether. I asked my pdoc if I could just take seroquel prn and she told me everyone is different in how they react to meds. DUH! That didn't answer my question. She supported me on seeing if I could go without an ap. I have a feeeling my anxiety would be increased, but I want my old body back. I lost weight when I was on abilify, but i can't take it. My pdoc said geodon would be the only other ap that isn't known to cause wt. gain. I have heard way too many horror stories. Plus she didn't want to make any drastic changes during the holidays. WEll after the holidays, i will probably start working which is way more stressful than the holidays.
dangergirl
I can't say one way or another how Seroquel affected my weight - I was taking it during a crisis and in a "strange land" where only fast food was available (before anyone starts saying impossible, I was living in a hospital ICU ward for a month as a visitor and out of hotels) - so I can't blame it on the med per se. My recommendation is to start a food diary. You may not realize the changes in your diet bc your more focused on changes in your mood. It'll at least give you something to look at and see if you need to tweak your diet. Also, if you are sleeping more, you need less calories bc you are getting less activity. 3750 calories = 1lb (roughly). I've read some people have good experiences with Geodon (not me) but I understand your hesitation - my old pdoc wanted to take me off of all my meds and put me on Lithium and/or Depakote right away - I guess that should've been a red flag right there, huh? Needless to say, I said hell's no.
mel1
I decided i will stay on the seroquel and just eat very little and take multi[vitamins and start walking . I tried yesterday to eat as little as possible and it wasn't hard. So I will just keep not eating much. i am not worried about eating too little because obviously if i need to lose wt. it doesn't really matter. eat less, exercise and i have to lose wt. right? dangergirl
Sorta Mel - reducing your calories will work short term, but your body was built for survival, and eventually, it will shift into survival mode and think that it's starving and slow down your metabolism. I'm saying this bc the term "eating very little" makes me a "little" nervous. You can pm me if you'd like help with this. I know a lot about this stuff and give you a basic diet if you give me info about what kinds of foods you like....although, I would tell you to quit the diet coke...LOL. quiet storm
Thats true. Eating less can actually make things worse. The best thing to do is eat BETTER.
papertrees
I've never tried seroquel but my pdoc says that he has a patient on a high dose of it that who has six-board abs. So I guess you CAN lose weight on it.
CER
I take Seroquel (100mg/day) and I haven't gained a pound. In fact, I've lost a few. It can be done.

Pamito
Hi, I have been on seroquel doses between 800mg and 1300mg for a number of years. I have gained about 3 pounds a year. You have to be on a sensible diet and one thing i find is to cut out all sugar and white carbs. they don't work with the seroquel - cravings then get uncontrollable, in my experience. It is possible to not gain weight, just eat smaller portions and exercise a bit, and dont undereat as this will slow down your metabolism. I am a size 8. But it is different for everyone. Just stay away from zyprexa as it is "the fatmaker"TM! Pamito
IHeartAAPs
No weight gain here and no increase in appetite either.
mysdefy
I take Seroquel 300mg and I gained back about 7 lbs I lost while depressed. It was weight that I lost quickly because I was on a low carb diet and I also didn't have much of an appetite due to the depression. I'm now a tad overweight for my height...but I don't know if I gained the weight back because of the Seroquel or if it's just because my appetite is back to normal. I did notice if I eat a lot of sugary/carby stuff on Seroquel I get MAJOR cravings for more. I've tried eating less and exercising more and I haven't lost anything yet, I just stopped gaining. Maybe Seroquel slows the metabolism.
