I'm allergic to geodon, risperadol, invega paliperidon that is made from risperadol and seroquel and effexor XR are not an option either because of their side effects. I don't know about abilify, but a friend of mine took it and walked herself nearly to death. I was not classed as bi-polar or schitzophrenic. I'm looking for a drug that will not make my breast any larger, they are quite large enough as it is and I don't want a med that will make me diabetic, I have enough conditions to deal with as it is. I don't want anything that will decrease my memory as I don't have enough left to go around as it is. If it already has a law suit against it, I really am not going to be interested in taking it anyway. Since I trust my doctor as far as I can throw him and I have two bitches that are scheduling appointments with him for me then not telling me that they made them and they are threatening me with a mental hospital I would really like to find a suitable replacement soon. I would like to be my best for my sons, if I were to find them and it doesn't seem that I will do that in peace, med-free if you know what I mean. I was told to ask for cymbalta, but it's in a different catagory isn't it?

Yes, Cymbalta is an Antidepressant.

Well,

With all your stipulations, caveats, and reservations it's pretty tough to help you. Every drug has side effects. If you are going to rule drugs out before even trying them, you are needlessly complicating your treatment, and perhaps depriving yourself of the one drug that might work perfectly for your symptoms. Your pdoc will have difficulty maintain his temper, too.

You hired your pdoc as the expert. Trust his education, training, and experience to choose the best treatment for you, and follow his advice. IF you have a problem, then the two of you can work through it.

good luck, a.m.

I know you've said that your friend had a problem with Abilify but it truly is different for everyone. If your doctor suggests this as an option, I would keep an open mind about it. It has been very helpful for some people, me included. We may have to go through some things with nasty side effects before we finally hit the one that will help us. I do urge you to be willing to try things. If they don't work for you, than you can always stop them.

I agree. I think it all comes down to that old question of What sucks less? Being crazy, or putting up with a few side effects? We all want the best of both worlds, but the reality is that it just doesn't happen for the vast majority of us.
