PsychaDelia
I started taking these 11 days ago. Since then I have lost the plot even more than I had before. My anxiety have multiplied & I'm getting more paranoid & even more scared of the thought of going outside. How long does it usually take for these to start working?? This is my first time taking meds & I was wary about taking them.
rowen
I think it's supposed to be around 4 - 6 weeks for Celexa to really kick in. If you feel that you're getting worse from taking the stuff, you might want to give your pdoc a ring and see if there's something else you should be trying. You should also talk to your tdoc about the anxiety. If you don't have a tdoc, I strongly suggest that you get one! The medication alone does not help. You might be interested in this site: http://www.crazymeds.us/celexa.html It has an overview of the drug, some anecdotal information, and a link to the PI sheet. Hope you feel better soon! remote_swimmer
Many doctors won't say this, but sometimes SSRIs (and SNRIs) can make you feel worse before you feel better. The first couple of weeks I took Effexor, I felt more anxious and had more depressive swings that were kind of unsettling, but at times I also felt somewhat better. The anxiety sort of reached a peak after about two weeks and then after that I noticed that each day was a tiny incremental improvement over the previous. I also had this experience on Zoloft. If you can tolerate the initial side effects (most of which go away eventually), there is something to be said about sticking out a med and giving it an adequate trial. However, if you can't tolerate the side effects, then there are plenty of other meds options, even in the same class of drug. Good luck!
