kennedy6500
Hey Everyone, I wanna ask the experts--especially those of you with experience on abilify First of all I am 5 mg for now, soon going up to 10. I am taking it with Trileptal. Any negative or strange side effects from that combo? Secondly, I read where Nizoral--a skin cream--can have a negative effect when taken with abilify---anyone ever deal with that? Is it true? What about weight gain or loss? Abilify is supposed to be weight neutral. Is that true? Anything else anyone has experienced? Does it work??? Thanks, Kennedy
LostSoul
Watch out for akathisia, anxiety and insomnia at higher dosages. I've heard a lot of people get these side effects when they jump from 5 to 10mg. Lots of people hate this drug. I personally love it. Started 5mg 3 weeks ago (replaced Zyprexa) to combat a nasty bout of depression and it's worked really well. Had some problems sleeping for a week or so but now I'm ok. Feeling great. Haven't heard anything about the skin cream. I've lost 3 pounds in three weeks - first two weeks was still tapering off the Z (only one week off of it) - don't think I'd be losing the Z weight that rapidly. Most people find it weight neutral, but I've heard some report weight gain. Good luck.
crazynotstupid
I've seen lots of people NOT hate this drug. I've been up to the max dose (30 mg) and stopped for two reasons: firstly, that was the dose I actually felt drowsy (amongst all AAPs, abilify, at least for me, is a not-drowsy-maker) and second, at that dose on my insurance it would be $100/month. Yowsa! For me it was not only weight-neutral but blood sugar neutral; important for a diabetic. Dunno 'bout the skin cream, but I always use www.aidsmeds.com to check med interactions. Bottom line for me: if I hadn't had to go to the max dose, I'd probably still be on it. But, with the drowsiness kicking in and the mad money it cost, I just SO couldn't do it. Other than that, for effect--side effect--cost, it's hands down my favorite AAP so far. Invega follows only cuz it too is so damn expensive, but frankly, on an effectiveness basis--for me I pick abilify.
Anelize
I despised the stuff. I've never felt worse than when I was on it at even 5mg. Akasthesia and anxiety to the max. I went back on the seroquel. I'd rather fight the carb cravings than to deal with the side effects of this stuff.
SashaSue
I like abilify a lot. I've been on it for about six months now, and it's done a good job of keeping me from reaching the scariest of highs, without making me sedated or fat, or any of the rest of the things AAP's can do. IHeartAAPs
I took Abilify at 15mg and had mild akathesia/akathisia (it seems to be spelled both ways depending on which website you visit), but Vistaril nullified it. After increasing my dosage to 30mg, I was too restless and nothing could stop it so I went back to Seroquel. It's not a bad AAP as long as you don't get akathesia/akathisia. nomi
I had an extreme reaction, the likes of which my pdoc had never seen: akathisia, anxiety, muscle weakness and pain, early waking, and what felt like either a mixed state (which would be strange for a med that's apparently supposed to prevent them) or ultra-rapid cycling. The unfortunate thing is that it really got rid of my paranoia, but the bad outweighed the good for me. I hope it works for you!
Loon-A-TiK
i take 20mg abilify. i tend to be really sensitive to AAPs, but abilify has been treating me good so far. i haven't had major problems with it, besides the tremors we suspect are being caused by it. i did lose a little weight when i started taking it, but that could have been also because i was feeling better and so exercising more. i *think* that most people have a good experience with it. my pdoc loves RXing it. he said it's the one he RXes the most. Guest Emily
I am on 10 mg of Abilify a day. My weight has stayed the same My only complaint is that it makes me incredibly tired. I have been taking Provigil to help that. My paranoia, delusions, and hallucinations have dramatically decreased. It has been a miracle drug for me so far, which makes the tiredness worth it. My cocktail**** 10mg Abilify, 200mg Provigil, 300mg Wellbutrin, 200mg Lamictal
