trg247
Hi: Just a quick question and that is can I get away with eating at fast food restaurant, your basic burger and fries, as long as I avoid funny sauces and cheese? I forget to take something out the night before so just curious if I could take this route every once and a while. Any safer restaurants? thanks again take care trg247

I forget to take something out the night before so just curious if I could take this route every once and a while. Any safer restaurants? I think I've done the "basic burger and fries" on Parnate. Considering how much effort these companies put into "flavor enhancement" with hydrolyzed yeast, cheese products/byproducts, etc. I'm not sure I'd trust anything much more complicated than that (chili sauce, salad dressings, barbecue sauce - have you read the ingredient lists on some of these things?) crazycatnapper
I guess I wasn't that careful because I ate out all the time. I just avoided cheese (american on a burger was fine) and I never had problems. The only time I asked about food was when the meat may have been smoked or when eating Asian food. I stuck to Asian dishes that were light on Soy and asked for no MSG. I obviously didn't eat Blue Cheese dressing, but I ate Italian and Ranch all the time without problems. I suppose knowing a pdoc whose wife was on an MAO for a while helped me. Plus, my pdoc told me most of the warnings were overrated. As I noted in prior posts, there are some biggies, but otherwise, the diet simply didn't alter my diet much. As long as you don't consume huge amounts of problem foods, you really don't have to worry too much. At least that was my experience of 15+ years and I think I'm getting back on the Parnate train because Xyrem didn't work for me and I need an AD to control my catalplexy. I know Parnate works. I hate giving up Pepperoni pizza again, but otherwise changes in my diet won't be significant.
