I am *so* tired of people commenting on how quiet I am. Don't they realize it could be worse by me saying what's exactly on my mind? Maybe I have nothing good to say. Maybe I have nothing to say at all which is most of the time). Maybe I have something mean to say. Would they rather have me become a babbling idiot, just saying whatever random thought comes to my mind? It's just like the random people who say "Smile! It can't be too bad!". If only they knew... ;)

I totally give up. Why can't people just accept the fact that everyone is not just like them, and if they aren't hurting anyone that it's really none of their damn business what others say and do?

Anyone here get called out for being too quiet?

All the time. Even though I chatter here, it's so much easier to do than IRL... I would much, much rather blend into the woodwork than talk. Here, I can talk, but I don't have to look/read the replies until I'm ready. I hate talking to someone, and apparently saying something wrong because they stare at me... and then I wonder WHAT I said, did I just speak martian, am I substituting words again, why are they looking at me???

I understand exactly. And yeah, I get called on it. I have wonderful "go to hell" looks.

yeah, I get it too. As well as the "smile!" comments and things like "what's wrong?" "are you alright?" blah blah. Fortunately when I'm out and about with people socially a guy who's just as quiet as I am is usually around, and we tend to sit together and comment... <quietly> ... to each other. ;)

If only they knew just how nasty the thoughts that run through my mind can be.

I had a friend at university who always ALWAYS used to say to me "act as though you're in a good mood, and the good mood will follow!" <snarl>

Now that's just grounds for homicide...

bwah! i agree.

violets, i come from an entire family of extremely quiet people (well, my dad's side anyway). like, they visit each other, sit together for hours, and don't say more than five words. then the visit is over, and they are happy to have seen each other. seen being the operative word i guess, because they sure aren't "hearing" anything ;)

and these people are (supposedly) not MI *ahem*. they're just ALL like that.

so i totally get the need to just not talk. and that other people sometimes just can't stand talking either. i feel like that a lot - it's either i want total silence or a totally engaging rant.

typing over the internet works so much better. you only have to do it when you feel like it :)

sorry it's driving you nuts there. wish i had a solution for you, except hanging up a sign that alternately says "CRANKY" on one side, and "YOU MAY SPEAK NOW" on the other :cussing:

now that i think of it, I want one of those.

Thanks guys...I am glad I'm not the only one. :wtf:

Lately it's been my family. They keep asking me if I'm sad, or what am I thinking about, or telling me that I'm not acting "sociable". Whatever. A cousin of mine asked me if I wanted to go shopping with her next weekend. I won't be going because she's one of those people who just *love* to ramble and she always comments on how quiet I am every time I see her.

OMG...is that person for real? ;):):cussing:

afraid so ;) He actually had a whole LIST of platitudes like that that he wrote out specially for me to pin above my desk...!

Haven't heard from him for years. I assume he's found a nice chirpy, upbeat, talkative woman to live with- it certainly was never gonna be ME! :)
