Neurontin? Bad?

I started taking it for fibromyalgia, but my pdoc suggested increasing the dose for anxiety treatment. Since the increase, my free-floating anxiety is almost nonexistent and my sleep has improved. I think it even augments the stabilizing effects of Lamictal. Side effects: mostly just dry/sensitive skin (worsened when Lamictal was added, but manageable), occasional light-headedness (seems to happen if I'm late taking my dose), some cognitive issues when titrating (losing words, forgetfulness). It may have caused me to gain a couple of pounds. It's not the med for everyone, but I love Neurontin.

I've never heard of it being used as an antidepressant. It's somewhat sedating, good at mellowing me, but no effect on depression that I've noticed.

It helped my anxiety for about 6 months and then pooped out. I was on 2100 mg. I felt drunk for about a week and then that wore off and I had no other side effects. It has a pretty low side effect profile.
