lysergia
thought this was pretty interesting.... psych central article - ebay selling psych tests hope that link works.
withing
They've got a point... An intelligent person can beat or manipulate many of those "tests" anyway without really trying. Some of the questions are so obvious that it's not that difficult to figure out what they're trying to ascertain It doesn't really scare me that eBay will sell them when I can go to nearly any "official" website and take a psych test online. What's the difference?
AirMarshall
Gee, I wonder how much it costs to get a "normal" rating. a.m. p.s. Are crib sheets allowed?
lysergia
crib sheets heh. i was just thinking of the bigger tests like the MMPI or something... i know smart people can manipulate the answers, but um... what's the percentage of people taking these tests who are smart? the percentage of smart people anywhere? wow, that was negative! i was also thinking of IQ tests, and how employers sometimes use parts of them to screen candidates... if you already had a copy, you'd know what to do regardless of your actual ability. i can't even take a stanford-benet because i learned how to administer it. my results would be skewed. not that i remember much about it now *wanders off* patheral, are the current internet tests the same tests? i confess i haven't seen many or taken many except the ones that are clearly jokes well if they are already easy to find then i guess let ebay have a go, too. but if the ones available now aren't the real deal, i don't want them to be sold to just anybody. i don't want to think of anybody learning how to fake a diagnosis just to get a certain drug or something (not that people don't do it now i guess). what was i talking about again? lysergia
ps AM - it costs whatever it costs in your state to get a medical degree, which makes you automatically the pillar of normalcy. especially if you get a psychiatric specialty
AirMarshall
reminds me of a movie running this weekend on tv about a fellow losing his mind to alzheimers, and he spends all his time studying notes, memorizing presidents names, etc, in order to pass the tests the doctors give him, so he can stay out of a nursing home. a.m.
resonance
Good psych tests have ways of checking to see whether people are inaccurately representing themselves. The MMPI has several scales that measure that, in fact, as far as I can remember. I support less good psych tests being sold on eBay. A good test should tell you whether someone's trying to break it, and employers etc who treat a junk test like a good test shouldn't be doing so.
