And finally, from China - Starting a lifestyle program in addition to using the diabetes medication metformin can counteract the weight gain that may accompany the use of anti-psychotic medications. A clinical trial was conducted looking at patients with schizophrenia who had a greater than 10% weight gain since starting anti-psychotic medication. Wheee... another pill to counteract the effects of another pill.

While I'm not dissing the importance of losing weight that was put on in response to AAPs, and certainly not dissing the importance of AAPs for more sanity for many of us, this is a good example of the cycle I DO NOT want to get stuck in ... treating unintended effects of one medication with another... seem like the slippery slope to 57 pills a day.

Peace,

Wooster
