A clinical trial was conducted looking at patients with schizophrenia who had a greater than 10% weight gain since starting anti-psychotic medication. The study showed that lifestyle intervention including exercise and a healthy diet in conjunction with the use of metformin resulted in a reduction in BMI and insulin resistance. Wooster Posted February 12, 2008 Share Posted February 12, 2008 Wheee... another pill to counteract the effects of another pill. While I'm not dissing the importance of losing weight that was put on in response to AAPs, and certainly not dissing the importance of AAPs for more sanity for many of us, this is a good example of the cycle I DO NOT want to get stuck in ... treating unintended effects of one medication with another... seem like the slippery slope to 57 pills a day.
