reco49
I was taking 150mg Effexor a day for 6 months and although I was thinking of going off effexor slowly, one morning I just stopped taking the pills. I am aware of the potential hazards of this but I just got fed up with taking medication. Its been 3 weeks now and it wasnt so bad, I went to work everyday, no brain zaps, slept okay the only really noticable effect I had was something I could ony describe as a mushy feeling in my head.I think I am an example , that it can be stopped dead one day however not advisable.I do miss the good feelings effexor brought me, the constant jitterines, lack of labido I do not miss. Still have prescriptions for another 6 months so we'll wait it out awahile longer and see if the world tries again to slap me silly, then maybe effexor will again come calling and I will except it as my saviour! username
I always try to quit meds cold turkey. I have done well so far with paroxetine and sertraline. If I stop taking venlafaxine I will try to do it cold turkey. Don't try this at home kids. I am a super hero.
SnaiLuv
I quit effexor cold turkey. I ended up in the ER with vertigo so bad i couldn't stand up. *shrug* Everyone's different.
wannabeok
I quit effexor cold turkey. I ended up in the ER with vertigo so bad i couldn't stand up. *shrug* Everyone's different. I had that same experience back in '93 or '94. No one had a clue what was wrong with me, I ended up having to have a few mri's of my brain and go to see a neurologist. The whole experience was terrifying. I ended up going back on effexor because of "relapse" back into depression a few months later. At least when I went off effexor again in '96, I knew what was going on. Then I went off paxil in 2000. I had all the same symptoms and I asked my doc if it could be from going off paxil (I didn't know enough to call it withdrawel). My doc was sure it had nothing to do with the paxil. I think the withdrawel is different for everyone, and extremely bad for me!

Velvet Elvis
I just deleatd a few different responses to this because they were just too rude. There is just no tactful way of telling someone they are an idiot.

MiaB
I was getting annoyed and honestly afraid at the potentially dangerous impact of the "go off Effexor cold turkey, it does nothing"-type threads.
