Ashdene
Hey! I am having a little bit of a problem with my seroquel, I take 400mg at night before I go to bed. Its really done well for me, and actually helped me sleep too! Which is always been a problem. But since I have gone back to classes, I have had to get up at latest 5 in the morning. And got to work late each night, so end up going to bed around 12-1 at night. I can't take it before i go to bed, or i won't be able to work properly! So if i take it before bed, i won't be able to wake up in in time. And if i do, scared of causeing a car accident! So haven't taken it for the last few nights! And I really need it, need to keep my sanity! So not sure what to do? Love Ash
resonance
Not taking meds = high chance of impending badness. Car accidents = also very bad so I can see why this is causing problems for you. There are two possibilities I see - one is to work with your schedule and the other is to call your pdoc and say hey, what do I do. (For example, sometimes pdocs will approve splitting the dose if that doesn't totally knock you out during the day.) You could also do both. Is the problem that you are scheduled to work late, or that you've been getting to work late so you have to stay later than you would if you got there on time? Is there any chance you can reschedule it for earlier, or that you could get a ride home? What time would you need to take it in order to get up on time? DMF
DD is having the same problem and she's on 6oo mg. at bedtime. First, I just don't think you are getting enough sleep - four or five hours is not enough for most people. DD takes her meds about 2 hours before she goes to bed. By the time she goes to bed she falls asleep immediately and has a really sound sleep. She's worried that she sleeps so soundly that she wouldn't hear the fire alarm if it went off so I know how difficult it might be for you. I'd just recommend changing your sleep time (easier said than) done. Hey! I am having a little bit of a problem with my seroquel, I take 400mg at night before I go to bed. Ashdene
Hey thanx for the comments!! I think i will talk to my cpd. I work in a hospital (internship year) and i live live quite far from the hospital, so to get to ward rounds and check you patient before, means getting up way too early!!! Splitting might be a good idea? im not sure? Think I'm getting to little sleep too, but i just had to take a 6 months leave, and am really behind with the others, so got a lot to do besides the usual work!!! Quite a tricky one? See what i can do. Love Ash
borzage
This was a problem for me, too. Fortunately I was already out of school. Unfortunately most jobs require long hours that don't coincide with my Seroquel schedule. I asked my doc to prescribe Adderall to help me wake up. But then I was taking Seroquel at night, Adderall to wake up, and Xanax to take the edge off the Adderall. Too many drugs, and I never felt like myself. All I can say is, after awhile of being on the Seroquel, it will be easier for you to get up. No idea what you should do in the meantime, but for heaven's sake don't drive on the stuff. DMF
First of all, big kudos to you for all of the hard work that it takes to be a doctor. May I ask what state you are in? When all this started with my daughter, whose dream was to be a doctor, we found that the chances of getting licensed with a diagnosis of anything remotely related to psychosis would be very difficult. She then looked into nursing thinking that she could continue her education and become a Nurse Practitioner. Checking with the state nursing licensing board, they said that they couldn't make any promises and suggested she try to get a waiver prior to starting her nursing courses. A waiver would stay in effect as long as her medical problems did not change. To be honest, she is relatively stable but has periods of "problems" and she was very worried that she would be at the mercy of the licensing board. So, she gave up that dream, too. I am thrilled for anyone that is pursuing a career in medicine because it seems that our state is not too excited to license for these issues. As it turns out, and here's my question, her memory and concentration are deeply affected by her meds. She has always been a very hard working student and not naturally a genius but she has seen a significant effect of either her disorder (not sure what it really is since the dr. doesn't seem to want to label but it appears to be schizoaffective) or her medicine. She now struggles with her studies and I don't think she could deal with the rigorous study, stress, and lack of sleep that tends to go with these careers. So, can you tell me if you've come up with ways of coping with these cognitive issues that many who take these meds have? Thank you so much! Hey thanx for the comments!! zenbean
hey ash, sorry, i can't remember what your dx is, but from your meds, i'm guessing bipolar? if so, 4-5 hours sleep a night is really risky. i understand trying to make up for lost time but getting so little sleep is really playing with fire. if there's any way you can work out your schedule to get a full night's sleep, i'd strongly encourage you to do so. hang in there - i know you're working hard - hope something works out for you! bean
