Cannot stay awake

Recommended Posts

I have sleep apnea and use my CPAP machine religiously. I'm on Paxil, lithium, occasionally Zyprexa, and Xanax at night. At night I lay in bed and cannot fall asleep. One night I took 1 mg of Klonopin and 2 mg of Xanax and still couldn't fall asleep. When I do fall asleep, that's it, I'm out, I can't wake up for at least 12-18 hours. And then I take a 3 hour nap in the afternoon. I work at home and sometimes can't even work my shift, which is endangering my job... I'll have to take abreak to take a nap. My children, ages 3 and 1, are up by themselves while mommy sleeps on the couch because I can't stay awake to care for them. I've asked for Provigil and been rebuffed. I've tried No Doz, tons of caffeine, everything... I can't stay awake.

So what in the world is going on? I'm calling the pdoc in the morning. I called last week and the nurse never returned my call after she said she'd go talk to the psychiatrist and get back to me. I told her, I need something that isn't going to cause weight gain and won't make me tired. They give me LITHIUM? ahahahahaha. Yeah. Nice.

But I even tried going OFF the lithium and Zyprexa and just taking the Paxil and I'm still dead tired. I don't know if my sleep schedule is just all screwy or what!

They are so quick to blame med side effects, the depression, sleep schedule, the sleep apnea, instead of trying to figure out what it really is. I feel so weak, I can barely move during the day! Something else is DEFINITELY wrong here. Autoimmune? I don't know. But I feel very very BLAH.

Who analyzed your sleep test results? Do you have a copy? It could be you can't reach a deep sleep even with the cpap, and that is going to cause daytime sleepiness. You need to call your sleep specialist and set up an appointment, not your pdoc. Hate to say this, but pdocs don't normally know dick about sleep and often overlook serious sleeping disorders. Happened to me for 20 years until they finally figured out I have naroclepsy.

Good luck. Not sleeping really messes with a person.
