mrsloony
I've been toxic on my lithium with some unusual symptoms for a few months. The dose has been lowered in increments from 1050 mg to 300 mg. Now I seem to be hitting the rollercoaster ride- badly depressed to hypomanic and back again. I tried lamictal maybe a year ago, and had trouble with painful glands, which went away as soon as I stooped it. So if I can't take lithium or lamictal and clearly am in need of some mood stabilizing, what can I do? I'm terrified of depekote ( hx of ed) as it seems people gian so much weight with it- which for me sounds worse. Are there other choices?
Rabbit37
Seroquel? Works wonders for me. Um yeah, I crave carbs, and keeping weight off is a little hard, but I've found that it's not so much what you eat, it's the exercise. But, I'm happily out of the depression pit, and I wouldn't give this stuff up for the world. I started out liking depakote, but in the end, loathed it. I've been on so many combinations, don't know what's weight-neutral and what's not. It's worth a try, perhaps.
Guest
Depakote works really well for me, and has done for two years.
MiaB
I really like trileptal.
mrsloony
i actually am already taking seroquel- didn't realize it was supposed to be mood stabilizing. If it is its not working. I don't know anything about trileptal. I guess I'll have to look it up. Thanks
witchywoman
I also take Trileptal and have had great success with it. I also take Geodon with it.
mrsloony
What is PCOS? You are right I shouldn't rule out something because of what might happen. A lot of people gain with seroquel too and I didn't so maybe depekote would be OK. I've been on almost all of the atyp APs without success or bad side effect ( 50lb weight gain on risperidon, masssive manic episode on geodon) I forgot about tegratol, have to look that up too. Hate the idea of resorting to the old "vitamin H"
AirMarshall
I have a list of meds by family and year of approval, that used to be pinned several places. Apparently it was taken down in one of the reorganizations. It is helpful for seeing groups of meds, for one. Here is an extract with meds used for bipolar disorders. a.m. Name - Family FDA Approval year Family/type Lithium Family- Stabilizer Lithium Carbonate 1970 Stabilizer Eskalith 1979 Stabilizer Lithobid 1979 Stabilizer Lithium Citrate 1980 Stabilizer Lithane 1985 Stabilizer Anti-Convulsants

Hi, Lithium made me toxic and I had a horrible reaction to it, I have taken Abilify the max dosage 30 mgs. for seven years and swear by it. Lithium may work for some but it nearly did me in. Abilify rocks.
Stars
I tried Lithium many years ago. I tried it several times. I got something the doc called yellow vision. I also was disassociating. He said it meant i was toxic. We stopped it right away.
