ms_camillec
I was wondering what the best time to take lamictal. I need some imput. thanks, camille
MiaB
None of the above. I take 200mg in the morning and 200mg at night. I don't know what the reasoning is behind this, because I've never had any noticeable side effects from the med. But this seems to work for me, so I'm sticking to the routine. Guest lostinthoughtandjaded
I usually take my 200mg RIGHT before bed... mostly because that's my most 'routine' time of day (if BP allows for anything 'routine' at all....), plus I have the added benefit of waking up dosed and ready to go... mornings are the worst for me mentally, so anything I can do to make it easier to wake up and get my sh*t together is worth trying... that said, I think the point of Lam is to 'balance' you, which means you might just have to work out the best dosage time for yourself... for example, splitting it into two daily doses so that your body burns through it more evenly... (I personally have too much trouble remembering both pills when I split them up, and end up all strung out on random doses as a result...)

AirMarshall
Whatever seems to work best for you. There is no special requirements, and generally Lamictal has no strong side effects, with one exception. Some people find Lamictal to be slightly energizing. If you seem to get a bit wound up after taking it, and it affects your sleep, then take it in the morning. That's what I had to do. Others find it slightly sedating and do better taking it at night. You don't see this mentioned in the PI sheet, but lots of our members agree on this. cheers, a.m.
betcsu
i take mine midday and my celexa at night. dont know why, but thats what they told me to do and its working okay so i stick with it. i will say that i dont always take my midday lamictal at the same time. sometimes i remember at 11:30. sometimes i dont remember till 3:30. but thats cuz i moved my pill box where it isnt as easy to see it. i was afraid it was gonna fall off where i used to have it and i didnt want the pills spilling all over the place. i HAVE to use a pill box so i know if i took my pills that day or not. i just need to find a new place to sit it where i can see it and remember to take my pills more consistently. themadhatter
I just started back on ym meds and am on the titration pack of the odt lamictal. i used to do a split dose of 150 am and 100 pm. It seemed to work for me but my pdoc is gradually working me back on meds until we reach the minimal amount that I need to be stable. I was pushing for going back to my old levels of all the meds but right now I am on low doses for me of my mood stabilizer and anti-psych pills. Thomas
I take mine at bedtime and it seems to work well that way. I agree that it tastes awful (one of my worst tasting meds). The generic I'm taking now is a huge round tablet and it is not even blue, but white. Tommy
Rabbit37
Long ago I found it to be slightly sedating, so I started taking it at night. IDK whether this s/e has passed, I suppose I should follow dr.'s orders, split the dose and see what happens. I just don't like being sleepy/tired in the mornings. Stormienite
Mine is gonna be the most unusual answer I'm sure. I take it when my soda is flat. LOL I take 300mg lamictal. and since I can't swallow pills that's -count em- 12 chewable pills, which I still need to take with a drink. Water makes it taste too crappy. Soda is fine with it (regular diet) but it has to be flat. So I'll take my 12 pills anywhere between 4pm and bed time.

lavender
Was taking in evening but switched to a.m. today. Am hoping this change will decrease the vivid dreams I've been having since I started Lamictal.
caycilia
I have been taking it in the morning w/my other meds. I do that because I leave them out on the counter in the bathroom and when I go in there in the morning to get ready I see them and remember. I'm increasing my dose tomorrow though, so if it makes me sleepy I may split between morning and evening. My pdoc basically said to do whatever works in that regard. We'll see. dancesintherain
I also take it at night. I was having daytime sleepiness issues and we weren't sure whether lamictal was the culprit or whether it was a lingering symptom. Shifting it to the evening seemed to help for me. It seems to be hard to swallow it. And, it does leave a bad taste in my mouth but I still would rather put up with that than the fogged out feeling I get from AD's and they don't work for me anyway. 0detta
I take mine in the morning, right after I brush my teeth. I have this thing where I have to brush my teeth first thing after waking, and I take the pill right after that so that I remember to do so. I'm one where it energizes me. I'm titrating and currently up to 100 mg, but mine is the berry flavored dissolve in the mouth kind. Doesn't taste bad at all. This was the free drug rep sample pack, though. Hopefully it won't be too expensive when I have to pay for it.
