Recommended Posts

well I just noticed that every night afte rI take my ambien the room starts tolook like I took shrooms, it gets this hazy pretty look to it, and the things in teh room start talking to me, and it is secadelic. It is so weird, I am pretty sure it is the ambiena dn not my schizo bc it only happens right after the ambien starts to kick in and i start to get super tired. has this ever happened to anyone before? I love ambien for helping me sleep but I don tknow if this is that great to be having. oh dear.

Yes, visual illusions are extremely common with Ambien. Some people are more suscetible than others. As tolerance to Ambien builds with increase use, the illusions decrease.

You need to follow the directions exactly with Ambien. You cannot stay up and watch tv, surf the internet or do other things after taking it. At the minimum you should take the tab with water and go directly to bed. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Some people even go so far as to be IN bed before taking the pill.

Additionally, Ambien decreases inhibitions and blocks memory formation. Meaning, you may do things that you normally wouldn't and not remember them afterwards. Examples include fixing meals/eating, sending inappropriate emails, ordering merchandise online, and (if you are a US congressman in the Kennedy family) drive to work at the capital at 4 a.m., crashing your car. ;)

Ambien is a great sleep aid, but must be used carefully. Very carefully.

a.m.

p.s. You should take Ambien on an empty stomach. Food delays absortion and decreases peak sleepiness effect.

i have been on Ambien for years. When I first began taking it, I had some hallucinations. Those things stopped after using it a little while.

Your best bet is to take it and go right to bed!

Good luck.

Guest embarrased in seattle

when I first took ambien I have no idea how I got to bed I remember being in my living room and then waking up in bed in the morning.. what's really bothering me now, is I have a very faint memory of being in my kitchen and picking my nose then putting my finger in my mouth like I was 3 years old . I think my 16 year old step daughter was right there and just smiled at me. maybe it was a dream some other night , maybe it never happened , but maybe it did happen, and I don't know what to do about it. if it did happen I'm shure she thinks im a gross pig, and I am very embarrassed. but if I talk to her about it I'd sound crazy, plus if it didn't happen then id embarrass myself anyway . any ideas on what I should do?

yeah, ambien is hardcore with that kinda stuff. i went to see pan's labirynth, then got home, got in bed, and took a pill. then my hubby called (was visitng family) and i tried to stay up and talk to him. big mistake. the eye dude was suddenly tons of little eye dudes crawling all over me. i begged hubby to stay on the phone with me until i passed out, and woke up with everything put away and organized on my night table with no memory of doing it.

i found a full pill was too much for me and ended up splitting it in half or thirds.

Ambien didn't work for me and it made me hallucinate as well.

I was given a 10mg pill in the hospital @ 2:30am because I was still awake and my body fought the sedation, and then afterward, I hallucinated. I never fell asleep from it.

I saw like a theme park and my bed was like a jail cell. It was very scary because I had no way of getting rid of the visuals and I was up the whole night that night.

The only way I was able to sleep was waiting till the afternoon later the next day. I had to have the inpatient pdoc write my mom a script for Lunesta that she then brought the bottle back to the nurses at the ward so that I could take my old fave Lunesta 3mg to be able to resume my sleeping habits.

Once Ambien stopped working that happened to me. I'd be lying in bed, in the dark but my thoughts would race and jump from one bizarre thing to another. Kind of like a lucid dream, I guess. I'd (mentally) see a cartoon train steaming towards me or a wolf trying to eat me. And the thoughts and images would go faster and faster. Ambien is a strange drug.

I would get on my computer and post and write poeple e-mails.... would eat practically whole leftover hot dishes...

I was wondering why I didn't remember eating food I found gone...and why there were posts from after I went to bed on my message boards, or people said stuff I don't remember saying.... and ten one night I woke up chocking on something while standing in the fridge reaching for more....

That was the last time I took it.
