azsteve
I'm taking paxil and I've been getting a lump in my throat. My mouth sometimes waters as this process happens but as soon as I burp I get a couple minutes of relief. I've been noticing that I get this lump when I increase my dose. Can someone please tell me this is normal? When I eat it goes away for a little bit but when I drink anything it seems to be worse. Thanks for your help Steve

Thanks for your help Steve <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The PI sheet lists, "eructation" under Gastrointestinal side effects. It's the third one, and I had no idea what it was either until I googled it. It means, "The act of belching; a belch." I never thought it would be so close to the top of the list, given that you're the first person I've heard of who complained about it. Alice
The feeling of having a lump in your throat can also be from gastric reflux (which could be aggravated by meds I would think). Reflux causes all kinds of unpleasantness like sore throats, a "lump in your throat" feeling, heartburn, and in my case even respiratory problems. You might consider asking for Nexium or Previcid, or try an over the counter option such as Zantac. It will probably help the belching too. Good luck. I hope you feel better soon. elaine
Guest bubeezlee
i had that lump in my throat feeling too after starting an ssri. doctor said it was anxiety caused by the meds, so i got something for anti anxiety and that helped alot
leese
Steve! I started back on Paxil 10 days ago and I'm burping like a fiend!! It's not from anxiety.. I'm finally feeling almost "normal" again, better than I have in over a year from my Lexapro stretch.. and it's not acid/gastric reflux, been there done that ain't that.. it's most def a side effect from the Paxil. Annoying, but beats crying 6-8 times/day. Leese
Ella
Lump in throat + burping= Acid reflux. Some medications can throw your acid levels out of whack. Try taking your Paxil with food and see if that helps. Hope you're able to get that under control easily (GERD is a gigantic pain in the tushy, tummy, and throat!) leese
Elaine and Ella... GREAT advice. I got back on Prilosec and the chronic burps are gone! What a relief. BTW, taking paxil w/food did nothing to help. Leese
