mghalt
I just started taking the whole 50 mg at night before bed and in my sleep all night and all day today my fingers have been twitching and I feel like I need to keep my fingers moving. What the heck is this? Will it go away or get worse?

What the heck is this? Will it go away or get worse? I take 25mg of Seroquel two hours before going to bed and my legs are twitching just before bedtime but the ativan I take at bedtime seems to make it stop. Its not really twitching, its more like I have to move , my legs are asking for moving . I dont have this problem in daytime btw. Ill should move to 50mg next week cause it aint helping me to sleep anymore at 25mg.
mghalt
yeah I started out taking 25 mg for sleep and it worked for about 3 days and then pooped out, so now I'm up to 50 mg at bedtime. I sleep through the night but the movement has gotten worse.

And one of the potential causes of RLS is altered dopamine transmission in areas of the brain Seroquel isn't intended to affect... Now whether this is properly considered RLS or a mild form of EPS, I don't know. You'd have to consult with a physician about what to do about it, as medications like Requip might make other problems far worse. If you're only taking Seroquel to help with sleep, maybe one of the very antihistamine/sedating TCAs might help, as a partial or complete replacement. Silver
FWIW, a remarkable number of people do seem to complain of new-onset or significantly worse RLS on Seroquel. Might be worth talking to your doc about checking for anemia, as iron-deficiency anemia will also exacerbate RLS. In the people I'm thinking of, the Seroquel had been OK until (in retrospect) they developed anemia. The combination was synergistic, but neither condition unto itself triggered the RLS. Just a thought.
mghalt
hmm I do wonder if I'm anemic, actually, because I'm really tired all the time and I've been anemic in the past. It's a question to bring up with the docs I guess! I did notice myself moving my legs around a lot last night. I feel more anxious or restless on Seroquel too. Strange. Anelize
I find that I twitch as I'm falling asleep, or if I'm really, really relaxed. I'm on 550mg a day of Seroquel, taken at night. The twitching doesn't bug me enough to really worry about it.
Vitriol
I guess the twitching side effect is gone ! Its the second night I dont have it, yeah !!! It was very annoying to have the legs asking to move. I sleep less too , thats a good thing but of course, it doesnt help me to fall asleep like the firsts nights I started using it. I will raise to 50mg this week (like the doc told me to do). Ill let you know if I get the twitching again. Dreams are also less vivid... Thats sad actually, I love vivid dreams . After more than a week at 25mg , I can say Seroquel actually works great for my PAD and GAD. (no need of benzo in daytime since I take it but I still need the ativan for sleeping) Maybe 50mg will help me with my insomnia. I will let you know this week. mghalt
I'm happy it's working for you! I'm taking 50 mg at night now and I do sleep through the night for the most part and taking 0.5 mg of Xanax with it helps with the nightmares but it does nothing for my daytime anxiety. In fact, I feel like my anxiety and panic are WORSE. I feel on edge, jittery, restless and tired. I'm tired of the med rollercoaster. Pdoc said we'd give Geodon a whirl next. I guess we'll see. The tremor is still there too and so are my restless legs. Yuck yuck yuck.
Duch
a remarkable number of people do seem to complain of new-onset or significantly worse RLS on Seroquel. The reason that seroquel can cause RLS is that it binds to dopaminergic receptors, meaning those cells that increase the levels of dopamine in the brain are effectively shut off. The effect of this is similar to Parkinson's suffers, whose dopamine cells have died or are not functioning up to snuff. Those RLS drugs you see advertised on tv came from PD treatments. And, dopamine seems to increase libido, so seroquel may reduce it.
Vitriol
I finally went to 50mg. Wow, terrible night. I just cant imagine how I would I feel on 100mg or more. My legs wanted to go dancing like I was John Travolta, this was VERY annoying. Im quitting Seroquel right now. I couldnt believe how terrible I was feeling. I doubled the ativan so I could forget about it and I finally slept for 14 hours ! (lots of cool vivid dreams at least). I tested a lot of meds and thats the first time I ever experience something like that. Anyway, I didnt died and I finally slept (more than I should have), but I dont want to experience that annoying feeling again. Mghalt, are you still taking Seroquel ?
