The pdoc suggested I try Haldol in an effort to save some cash. I think it's overkill for where I am right now but am willing to give it a try. He wants me at 10mgs. I took 2.5 last night and am on a total cloud. What doses have people out there found tolerable?

i used to take 4 drops of Haldol(2mg/ml) at night so it was practically nothing. it worked well for a while, but then it just pooped out. Never felt in a cloud or so, again, because of the low dose.

keep us posted, and if the cloud is good, enjoy it ;)

I don't get the 'on a total cloud' - more like 'in an aquarium filled with foam' feeling. But maybe that's my underlying dysthymia.

I've only taken it for manic psychosis. 3 mg is as far as I went, and it did make the delusions go away. The fogginess was worse at first, became better with a little time.

I far prefer Stelazine or Trilafon. I like the old-school APs much more than the AAPs - they are The Thing for helping to clear psychosis and take off the manic edge. Stelazine (trifluoperazine) in particular is the best anxiolytic I've found (but anxiety isn't usually my thing, so YMMV with a vengeance.)

I have always combined Haldol with some prophylactic Benadryl, as I'm prone to EPS. This would, of course, alter my experience significantly.

I have taken up to 3mgs combined with 20mgs Zyprexa with no ill effects except premature menopause which is a shame as I ADORE Haldol and nothing treats my psychosis better. I am sorry to hear you are having a foggy head feeling VE, I just got a feeling of great lucidity, calmness and cessation of psychosis. Though I may have had problems tolerating 10mgs cos that's a high dose.

It's well within normal use, but it does seem a little high if you aren't acutely manic or psychotic.

If you are in one or both of those states, 5 BID isn't that high. Standard ER order is for "5 and 1" (Haldol and Ativan, IM, sometimes '10 and 2' depending on the situation) for control of significant symptoms. Tou know, significant enough that you're in the ER.
