kimberlyinptc
HI, I was reading some older posts last night and ran across one that caught my eye. My husb is BP and recently was hospitalized for a major manic/delusional episode where he hurt me. (He quit his meds) I've been looking into his rage issues, cause when he's not WAY manic, he's the sweetest person I've ever met. A total Dr. Jeckyl/Mr. Hyde. When he's had manic episodes, his euphoria always turns to dysphoria or something like a mixed state (manic but mad/mean). He's rarely depressed, and usually only after a manic trip. Even then he's not deeply depressed, usually sad and down about the shit he did when manic. Anyhoo, I was reading something about temporal lobe issues and rage being tamed by topomax and it's kin. But it also mentioned deja vu. I asked husb today and he said he's always experienced it. He's never mentioned it, says he thought everyone had it. (I have it like once a year) I'm not sure what the opposite of deja vu is called, but I think it's where familiar things seem unfamiliar. He says he hasn't experienced that, but I swear, the man gets lost going places he's been a million times before. We joke about it, but it's weird that he gets lost driving so much, going places he's been going since he was a kid. Could it be that he has some temporal lobe issues? Sounds like it to me. He's currently on 2000mg depakote and 6 days ago started 200 mg tegretol (had some breakthru racing/intrusive thoughts) and 75mg wellbutrin. What are the other symptoms that temporal lobe issues cause? I'm trying to figure out what catagory he falls into in the bipolar spectrum, and wondering if the TL stuff has any bearing on getting him a correct dx, and therefore the right meds. Any help is greatly appreciated as I am just learning about this disorder and want to help him in any way I can. New pdoc may not be working out...last visit he had no file, took no notes, seemed like he had better places to be. UGH! I suspect he thinks I'm trying to do his job...at least I took notes!
