diamondgirl
ok well my doctor took had raised my serouquel med from 150 to 300 xl mgs. at night for depression and thursday i was ok, except my heart was racing and and i was kinda acting abnoxiostly, and wanting to eat everything. But i was just wandering if these are side effects or will they go away if anyone knows. I lowered it back to 150mgs. Thurs. but today i quite feel like this shit. I think i will have to raise it back up again.
Anelize
I take 700mg of the stuff, and probably absorb about 500mg because of my gastric bypass. It's a constant struggle not to want to constantly graze. If I do, I make sure it's protein, since carb eating tends to beget more carb eating for me. It would be horrible if I gained BACK the 110 lbs I've lost since the surgery. That's the only side effect I've really noticed in all the years I've been taking the stuff. I've tried every other AAP with pretty poor results, so I'm stuck with this one.
diamondgirl
I only tried ablilify and this one. I tried Resperidal along time ago but don't really remember. But i am going to have to go back up on this one cause til i see the doc. This med seems is much different on higher doses. But yeah like the first week i raised it, i couldn't stop craving candy, I couldn't stop eating my kids easter candy. NOt good. I guess i will have to start buying lowfat/low sugar stuff. diamondgirl
I just wanted to say that when i said it made me obnixious i meant i was just saying things without thinking, things i probably normally wouln't say. And i had another question do all aps have the fast heart beating side effect? I know zyprexa didn't. Abilify did for me. And i raised the seroquel back up to 300 mgs. but i don't feel a difference or like it is helping.
mrsloony
Its weird you brought this up today- i increased my seroquel 2 days ago (75 to 100), and one thing it was supposed to do was help me sleep better. Last night I lay in bed for so long (at least an hour) and my heart was racing so bad that I finally had to get up, take some ativan and fall asleep on the couch with the tv on to distract me. I'm supposed to bump it up again( to 125 and then again to 150) - I'm a little afraid- who knows if it will be better or worse?
mrsloony
I went up to 125 last night and still had the same heart racing you described. I was hoping the higher dose would knock me out, but with the heart racing- it became quite the panic attack. ( I don't remember having this with any other med, and never with the seroquel at lower doses)
diamondgirl
yeah mrs. looney, i had a hard time falling alseep too with the med increase, but after the third night right when i took it, i felt immediately asleep. But the next day my anxiety was better till later when my heart started racing, i called my doc, and she wasn't there so basically the person that i talked to said if it was real bad go to the e.r. But it did go away yet i did have to take an ativan also. Which is alittle weird seeing they wanted me to stop taking the ativan. Yet, also someone said it could be a side effect of the med. Sorry i ain't much help i haven't even talked my to doc yet(tomorrow.) But what i can tell you is that i decided to lower it back down on my own, and had a horrible time, and then raised it back up again after two days of hell and i it doesn't really help much anymore like before. And my heart races even more, weird, and it really doesn't help sleep/without the ativan. So maybe you should talk to your dr. or maybe someone on here has more answers or advice. I know it is uncomfortable and a little scary, but hang in there.
Velvet Elvis
If you have cardiac side effects, that's definitely something to talk to your Doctor about. I had bad food craving on seroquel. I finally gained nearly 100 pounds on it. It worked better than almost anything for my anxiety so I stuck with it until it became a serious diabetes risk. mrsloony
I e mailed pdoc who replied that racing heart is not a usual side effect of seroquel, and perhaps there was another cause and that I should check in next week. OK but.... So I've added 1mg of ativan at bedtime too,and I've fallen asleep ok. I have actually needed less ativan during the day than before the increase- so that's something- now I'll just save it for bedtime.
diamondgirl
Hi,Mrs. Looney, yeah i talked to my pdoc too and she said it may be something cardio, but she said it was probably some underlying anxiety that i had. Yet it did help alot, like you said during the day. I tried to take it in the morning but that didn't go so well, but at night it is good after the first initial hard to fall alseep nights. Newtonium
I've been on Seroquel for a couple years now, and maybe this will help: The racing heart thing could be due to Seroquel's habit of lowering blood pressure. Low blood pressure = not enough blood flow = heart pumping hard to keep up blood flow. I had it several times when I first started Seroquel, but it went away. I have a tendency toward low blood pressure anyway. But if it keeps on happening, certainly check with your pdoc and/or GP. Also, it helps to drink lots of fluids--which isn't too hard because Seroquel makes me really thirsty. The grazing thing is pretty common too. I find that if I take my whole dose at bedtime, I sleep through that and am OK during the day. HTH, Jackee
Amy10
I thought I saw mentioned somewhere that tachychardia, rapid heartbeat, is a side effect but I may be wrong.
