Can Wellbutrin Cause Delayed Orgasm?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am a male taking WellbutrinSR 200mg in morning and Klonopin .5mg. at night and I am having problems with delayed orgasms (about as bad as it was on SSRIs).

I've read that neither of these meds are supposed to cause sexual dysfunction, so I am confused and discouraged. I have been on both meds for 2 weeks now.

Any experience or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

Brian, most of the time I've read about people taking Wellbutrin to correct their sexual problems caused by other ADs.

I would say that first of all you need to give it a little more time. Most meds don't fully "kick in" until you've been taking them 4-6 weeks. You need to get a certain level of them in your blood.

The other thing you might consider changing is the kind of Wellbutrin you're taking. The SR version left me emotionally flat and did not help my depression at all. The XL version did the trick. We're all different, but maybe this is something you could present to your doctor and see what he thinks.

I hope you find a med that works for you and doesn't have such an unfortunate side efffect.

SSRI's definitely cause delayed (if at all) orgasm for me, but Wellbutrin doesn't. When I was taking SSRI's the pdoc prescribed the WB XL to counter the sexual side effects. It didn't work, so I dropped the SSRI's altogether and now I just take WB SR (no difference for me between SR & XL) with Remeron. No sexual problems at all.
