The Risperdal was making it very hard to wake up early in the morn. I have to get up at 5. Anyway, DR. gave me Geodon to replace Risperdal. Anyone have any ideas on what to expect? I will be taking 40mg at night.

i had no side effects on it. It has a short halflife and will kick you in the ass if you forget to take a dose though.

+++What happens if you miss a dose? Please explain kick you in the ass? lol

My doctor started me at 80mg. I felt kind of manicky. Then he increased it to 120mg. I had an episode of something similar to restless leg syndrome (akathasia?) and woke up with some anxiety & panic--like I couldn't get enough air. Then increased to 160mg. I had a few crying jags. Then to 240mg. (I tend to take high doses of meds). I seemed to feel better. Throughout the introduction of the Geodon, it seemed to help pull me out of my deep depression.

A few months later, he took me off of it because I was still at a low depression level so he didn't think it was doing that much for me. The withdrawal was a bitch. And VE is right, don't miss a dose. Anyways, since I've been off of it, I've had less obsessive, intrusive thougthts. I don't know why.

I was happy to have been put on it for awhile because it seemed to help with my deep depression. Also no weight side effects.

So that's my experience. It seems that people either love it or hate it.

Good luck.

I take 120 mg of Geodon. It makes me tired, still, after 10 months on it. It made me manic at first, had to add Trileptal to calm me down. Of course I was on Cymbalta at the same time, which may have made me manic with the Geodon, who knows. Anyway, I haven't had a really bad depression since I've been on it, even without an antidepressant. I also agree with having to take it at the same time everyday and don't miss a dose. I take mine all at night and I have to take it at the same time or else I feel bad (headache, dizzy, etc.). Good luck and hope it works out well for you.
