ChemistryExperiment
Any luck for anyone with Lyrica as a mood stabilizer!?
Lars
Well, not as a mood stabilizer. I have used it against my GAD, but I have found it to prevent my "mood crashes". But it elevates my mood and makes me chatty, so I dont think it's an anti manic. Sorry I can't give you a better answer.
zenbean
it's being used off-label for anti-anxiety. haven't heard of it being used as a mood stabilizer. a common SE is drowsiness, so i suppose that might slow you down a little. bean
Lars
Too bad that it's off-label for anxiety in the US. It works extremeley well for that. And it's not even scheduled over her.
nalgas
Too bad that it's off-label for anxiety in the US. Yeah, it really is kind of unfortunate. In some other places, it's been approved for that, but not here so far. People use it for anxiety anyway, though, because it does seem to work quite well for some of them. It would be nice to have the FDA actually acknowledge/approve things like that sometimes. It seems kind of silly when a med will be approved for one thing but not even used for that much compared to half a dozen off-label uses which have sprung up in the meantime that overshadow its original intended use. And don't even get me started on things that the FDA hasn't approved for any use at all, so they're not even available off-label (yes, I will rant about crap like tianeptine for days when I get into it). Heh.
dreamless
It didn't seem to stabilize me all that much (other than making me stably euphoric the first few days). The only thing I noticed (well, apart from that initial euphoria) was that I slept better; however I had also just come off Edronax which is notorious for disrupting sleep, so I'm not sure what caused what. And various side effects, as usual.
GreatDane
...It would be nice to have the FDA actually acknowledge/approve things like that sometimes. The thing you gotta remember is that the FDA knows full well about the offlabel use. The only reason it's not approved is that the drug companies haven't coughed up the cash to show that a particular drug is a good treatment for a particular disease/disorder/symptom. Hell, has anyone tried good ol' GENERIC gabapentin instead of Lyrica, i.e. pregabalin? Lyrica is just the activated metabolite of gabapentin, or what your body turns gabapentin into! Lyrica is just the activated metabolite of gabapentin, or what your body turns gabapentin into! I have tried "good ol' GENERIC gabapentin", which did some pretty horrible things to me (yay for my stupid brain getting exceptionally pissed off at something that normally has minimal side effects or doesn't even work). Gabapentin is Neurontin, and as far as I know, it's not metabolized to any significant extent into anything, pregabalin or not. Gabapentin and pregabalin do work in somewhat similar ways, but I'm pretty sure they're less related than you think.[citation needed]
Lars
A warning about Lyrica: I really, really like how Lyrica affects me, especially in higher doses. So sometimes I take to much, and actually get a good buzz from it(1200mg single dose) If you have got an addiction problem (I have) this could get complicated. Don't know if everyone gets buzzed or just me.
