Echo
Ahhhhh!!!! Since last night it has felt as if there is something in my eye. Then, this morning, every once in a while when I blink and it looks as though there is something in my field of vision. Almost like a little piece of a contact - looks white and is hard to see through. Then I blink and it goes away. (And no, I don't - and have never - worn contacts). It's driving me so nuts. Last night I dumped almost an entire bottle of water on my lap while driving because I was irritating me so much I was trying to flush my eye in the cup of my hand! Could this be being caused by the Depakote? The only other meds I'm on are Seroquel and Klonopin prn. I don't think either one of them could cause this. I read everything about Depakote and didn't find anything about issues with eyes. Am I crazy or is this a possibility? Has this ever happened to anyone else before? Echo
I'm assuming by the lack of replies that this isn't something that has been experienced by anyone else before. Maybe I'm being a bit of a hypochondriac (sp?). Feel free to delete my post.

I couldn't find where it says what kind, though.
Echo
Thanks for that info. "Eye problems" is a pretty wide spectrum. I think I'll just keep an eye on it (ha ha) and worry if it gets a lot worse and more frequent.

Hassmaschine
I was on depakote for about two months, when I developed visual problems. Namely things like shadows out of the corner of my eye. Always periphreal movement. You're not alone. I quit taking depakote because of it, and it went away. If it bothers you alot, perhaps you can do the same. lost one
Echo, I have eye issues also. I'm on 2250 mg of the ER. Sometimes I "see" translucent spots floating in front of me. Some times they move out of my field of view and other times they float in front of me for some time. It irritated me at first but when I read on the PI sheet "D" ER can cause abnormal vision , I figured that's the problem and now I try to ignore it. Take care, Eric
NARS
Dunno if this helps, but I had pretty bad dry eyes on 1500 SR. That seemed to aggravate floaters, etc. Careful with the mobile eyewash, though!

Take care, Eric <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is specifically listed on the PDR page--that I just now bothered to read instead of just entering the word "eye" into the findbar to see where that went. I'm surprised my attention span was as long as it was that day, what with me running out of Adderall because I forgot to tell my mom when I had a week's worth and her forgetting to check the pharmacy the day before. Sorry about that. Anyway, they also list "vison problems."

grn
No clue if this is common (or what you might mean, in a milder form), but I've almost always had a minor eye problem on depakote. My eyes feel like they're dry or strained, but not itchy or achy. Felt like I had bug eyes, like they were larger than normal. It might be my perception of inflamed mucus membranes. Most drugs that sedate me have the same effect to a degree. I've mentioned it more bluntly when it occured, but it never made me want to stop... it was one of the very few "interesting" side effects. Risperdal as a prn did the same, to a greater degree, when I first started taking it. Having the same feeling now, after 8 days of (possibly) hypomania / depression. I noticed that shortly after I started to become much less stable. I wear glasses, but no noticeable change to vision. Possibly eyestrain issues, too. Yes, this is a late reply. See two para up. Hope it's not annoying.
Lisa_K
Ive been on Depakote ER 1000mgs at bedtime since March of this year, and Ive had some eye wackiness. Atfirst, I thought I wasnt sure if it was the depakote, as I am also on topamax, and keppra, and I wasnt sure if it was a combo...I was even more afraid they were going to have to switch my meds or pull me off of one, or whatever to try and figure out what was going on. But I finally realised it was the Depakote, as it was only happenning at night, right after I took it. It was like I would see lights around everything bright, essp. if I were outside in the evening and were looking at anything brighter compared to the dark. And I would see tracers around bright things when I would walk into bright rooms...I would also sometimes see little white dots or white splotches out of the corner of my eye. As time has gone on, these side effects arent as dramatic, but the glow around bright lights and tracer thing sometimes comes back just not so strongly. I have thought about seeing my doctor and an eye doctor though, as Ive been told that Ive been 'squinting' alot more, and have had a few more headaches, whether or not either of these have anything to do with eachother, I doubt it. If the eye thing bothers you, I would talk to your doctor about it...
