I think I've been pretty much through all of the ADD medications except the one I am currently on. Generally, I've ended the others because either they didn't work or, over time, I could no longer tolerate the side effects.

I wouldn't really count Wellbutrin or a supplement I had, although the effects were similar.

Strattera and the Methylphenidate class of medications have made me feel similar, and have not worked.

Amphetamine class, Dexedrine and Adderall, have been helpful (although the latter moreso). I had to stop Adderall because I could no longer tolerate the side effects. The breaking point was uncontrollable night sweats.

This brings me to the point of the thread: I started Desoxyn (methamphetamine) not too long ago and have noticed small details and my thinking more clearly than I ever have on the other medications or supplements. I have also noticed very little in the side effect department. I have had no dependence problems. Heck, even Adderall was not easy to come off of. My question is this: Why would you say this drug has enjoyed a particularly negative reputation? Would you say because it is very abusable (you don't get the serious side effects until high doses), or would you say it is related in general to propaganda of the "War on Drugs"? Or, perhaps there is another explanation...

Certainly you are getting some social fallout from the well-publicized misuse of methamphetamine, not to mention decades of amphetamine overprescription in the middle of the last century. (Dexamyl, anyone?)

However, I notice that you say in your post that all the other amphetamine/stimulants have eventually been dropped due to your dissatisfaction, and that you have been on Desoxyn for only a relatively short time. Seems possible to me that rather than Desoxyn having unique qualities, you tend to become intolerant to specific stimulants after a while.

As to the relative abuse liability of methamphetamine/Desoxyn, I'll defer to someone else. But that is the social perception, yes, and it is what you have to work with.

However, you seem to have found a physician who actually prescribes Desoxyn, so evidently you have someone who's willing to work with you.

Well, as far as what he prescribes goes, I think he is open minded. In my case, I have been seeing him forever (the file is as thick as a decent size book). Even still, I got the lecture and had to give assurance that it would not be abused. In my opinion, doctors should have done the same with Adderall. They don't really even think about it nowadays because of how popular that medication is. Though, back to what I said originally, it is harder to abuse Adderall than Desoxyn because the cardiovascular side effects that are too problematic occur much sooner on the former than they do on the latter.

Meth is very dangerous when misused. It's fucks with your head so much. Prescription or street, it doesn't matter. If you take too much it's pretty likely to ruin your life, IMO.

I see a neuropsych who is an ADD specialist and he won't give me Desoxyn despite admitting that I'm a perfect candidate for it. He says both he and I would be investigated if he were to give it out. I think there must be some regional variation in this. Meth is a big problem in Appelachia. Despite the fact that I'm not in east TN, what happens there likely has an effect on policy for the rest of the state.

Yes, excessive doses of methamphetamine can lead to many problems. It is a potent drug. In fact, the 5mg tablet proved to be more potent than I could handle when a second dose during the day was added, so I am now just taking half of the tablet at each dose, and that seems to be working out well. I experienced firsthand the nonresponsive mental state that has earned this drug its well deserved street name, although that experience wasn't intentional, and I have no desire to repeat it. The lesson to be learned is that powerful medications should be started at the lowest dose and increased slowly.

I think the only reason you might be investigated is because you live in the same state as Methville. The first three scripts I had filled, I had to wait four days each time. Now, it seems they keep a ready supply for me. Who knows, maybe I am being watched.
