Night three on zoloft. I can't sleep. I keep getting hot flushes and my heart is racing. I feel as though I'm about to die. I'm sure this is just anxiety but please can I have some support.

I'm so sweaty and tired.

hey there ben. i just started zoloft almost four weeks ago, and i went through the same thing. the best thing i could do for myself was try to stay busy and not think about it. i know it seems impossible not to think about it, but if you can find something really absorbing -- a book, a movie, working out, anything -- it will really help. of course, i also had sleeping pills to help me pass out at night, which also helped. maybe you should ask your doctor for some samples of something to help you sleep, just for now?

It just so freaked me out. Yesterday I went to bed at 10:45pm and I was awake at 2:30am, no panic just wide awake... so i went SHOPPING to a 24hr shop!

Tonight (its 2am), I wake up suddenly sweating and have basically a panic attack. My previous med was effexor and it wasn't like this so it was just so unexpected.

The panic part has gone now, I'm just trying to get the courage to go back to bed......

I intend to speak to my doctor tomorrow, either I want to stop these pills or I need a weeks worth of sleeping pills or anti-anxiety pills to get me through and med induced panic. (I don't normally suffer from panic you see).

thanks for your reply, it's just a bit scary to be feeling weird at 2am!

I went through the same thing when I started taking zoloft.

Do you take your meds at night or in the morning? I switched to taking them in the am and found that helped some with the night time anxiety.

The nightsweats though, took about 8 months to go away.

If that doesn't work though, seeing if you can get something temporary to help your sleep might not be a bad idea.

It can take awhile for the side effects to go away. The worst of mine stopped after a couple of weeks, but some (like the night sweats) took a lot longer.

It is definitely helping. I still have my bad days, but I feel better than I have in a long, long time.

I hope you start to get some relief soon.

Take care,

Kristin
