Most people wouldnt reccomend it. Well... I probably wouldnt.

I'm on two antipyschotics, Geodon and Risperdal and I'm still having trouble with Hallucinations and sleep. I thought of switching Risperdal to Seroquel (which ive been on before), mostly for the sedating effect. But the thing is Geodon makes me lethargic in the mornings, making it hard to get up in the morning. And a special effect Risperdal has (for me) is that it helps me get up in the morning. So I dont want to get off Risperdal. But I definitely dont want to get off Geodon. Geodon is the only med ever that has taken away paranoia and severe disorganization. So that ones a keeper (I was on Abilify 30mg and Seroquel 600mg before Geodon). I guess you could say I'm on low dosages of the two APs im on now. So what about upping? Well I could up Geodon and try to get rid of the hallucinations. But that would cause more lethargy in the daytime, but still no sleep at night. I might even be able to up Risperdal and try to knockout the hallucinations but still it doesnt help with sleep. Well I guess I could up Geodon for the hallucinations and then Risperdal for the lethargy and then add a sleepaid. But some of you remember my complaints about Ambien making me psychotic in the middle of the night and me swearing off sleep aids. Thats not a fun loop to repeat.

Okay, anyway... I seem to be thinking outloud apparently and was just hoping for thoughts and suggestions. Just how unheard of is it to be on three APs?

Thanks!

Grateful,

Twitch

With the old-line APs, it's not something I've run across. With the AAPs, if that looks like your best shot to hold it together, talk to your doctor about adding one at a minimum dose.

*I* don't recall seeing anyone on three at a time. I think most people would switch one or both AAPs for a traditional AP, but I don't know enough to say that that would work better for you.

  • 2 weeks later...

My pdoc just added Haldol to my regimen. It has helped immensely. I was incredibly skeptical about it when I started it, in fact I had given up hope that anything was going to help.

We're talking about getting rid of Geodon altogether because it's working so well. Have you tried a traditional AP yet? It calms me during the day, so I don't have the intrusive thoughts. In the evening, it has a nice sedating effect as well.

Three AAP's? Never heard of. Doesn't mean it hasn't been done. It just seems, well, excessive.

But, on the other hand, people say the same thing about the med regimen I'm on [which admittedly needs to be tweaked, but that's a whole other story].

I'm also on two though- risperdal and abilify. People all have different brains, and no matter how much testing or how many trials we run, there are always exceptions.

Not saying yay or nay really.
