Confused about potency.

Recommended Posts

It was my understanding that out of the three big SSRIs, fluoxetine was the weakest (terminology?), paroxetine was the strongest, and sertraline lay somewhere in between.

Whilst I realize that >potency does not necessarily = > positive result, my doc now tells me that the dosages are arranged to ensure that all SSRIs (and APs) deliver the same effective strength.

Explain this to me then.  If sertraline is more potent than fluoxetine, why must you take more mg of sertraline?
