liveoak
Obama wrote a freaking book about his policies. Charlie Gibson could hit him with every feasible question there is, and he can answer it substantively. I think the media has been very soft on Palin, because they are distracted by her beauty and her charm, neither of which equal ability or experience. I hope that SNL keeps on with the parodies and makes them even rougher on Sarah Palin. And just as funny!

She has been grilled more than the presidential candidates in my humble opinion. How fucking sexist. I would like to hear Obama being grilled like that. Oh, that will never happen. How was he an asshole? He asked her fair questions that the voting public would like answered. She responded in the most vague terms, parroting memorized phrases and blabbing her head off about nothing. Her ignorance was insulting not just to Gibson, but to the American public. I'm not surprised he grew irritated with her - so did many appalled voters. How has Palin been grilled more than the other candidates? The opposite is true - she's been hiding from interviews, and since the Gibson disaster, the McCain campaign is now asking reporters to go easy on her. Why? No one is having to handle Biden or Obama with kid gloves. If you want to hear Obama being "grilled like that", go watch some interviews. There are lots of them. He's not hiding from the press. And explain exactly what is sexist? Palin's incompetence has nothing to do with her gender.
Velvet Elvis
If you want to talk sexism and misogyny, how about forcing women to carry their rapist's child? She's even opposed to emergency contraception after a rape and makes women pay for their own rape kits. How about her new excuse for troopergate? The new story is that the dude was fired for being too aggressive in getting funding for fighting sexual assault. I'm used to republicans being on the side of white-collar criminals. She's taken it to a new level by being on the side of the rapists though. Not only is she a sexist, she's a misogynist to boot.

And, I mean, one of the things that pisses me off is that if someone criticizes Palin even a little, people jump on it saying they are being sexist. Most of the criticisms have *nothing* to do with her being a woman; she just so happens to be a woman and is using it as a shield. That is also sexist (reverse sexism, anyone?). I mean, yes, Hillary spoke of woman's rights and breaking the glass ceiling and all that, but as a candidate, she did not really hide behind her sex and shy back from things because she is a woman. Hill is out of the game and now all of a sudden people are concerned with sexism. Seriously here. I mean, what is it? Is it because Palin is hotter than Clinton? Not to mention that I do not see Republicans concerned about racism... As for being asked questions, well, she should know shit. Yes, she is on the ticket for vice president, not president, but vices need to be prepared be become president and run the country. They need to be just as qualified and knowledgeable. He brings up a bunch of good points in both that and the followup to it (which I also read and is linked at the bottom of it). Despite that, I'm mostly annoyed after having read both parts of it, because he falls into the usual trap of making misleading statements, particularly in the followup article. Yeah, white people holding 90% of management positions in US companies is disproportionately high, but if you neglect to mention that they also make up 80% of the population, it makes it sound...disproportionately disproportionate. The part about drug searches a couple paragraphs up is equally skewed. It's frustrating, because they're true statements about real situations that exist and are unfair, but presenting them in such a biased way can end up hurting as much as it helps. I guess this is the part where I make some kind of comment about "lies, damned lies, and statistics" or a reference to How to Lie with Statistics and sulk off somewhere. Heh. I have no idea where this fits in, but according to said Census, Hispanics can be of any race (I think most classify themselves as "white"), so there probably is a significant proportion of 241 million also classifying themselves as Hispanic. I think. I don't even know where that fit in. Don't get me started on race. Ethnicity? A more reasonable gamble. Obama is half-Kenyan, half-mutt-western European. McCain? The name indicates Irish, but God knows. Me? Technically Indian, but the two counties/districts my parents are from have a history of European residents intermixing. Screw it. How many Americans know about Obama's shady past with Tony Rezco (nice land deal!), ACORN (voter fraud! whee!), his dealings with the Chicago political machine, his actual work as a "community organizer", what he did (or how little) as a constitutional law professor (and oh my, just where are any papers of his?), what he did in the Illinois State Senate, what of importance he's done in his wee little time in the U.S. Senate (other than what bills he attached his name to, read the fine print people)... People see the hype. No one sees the man behind the curtain. Any Republican steps out of line or into the limelight and they get ripped to shreds...and get their email accounts hacked to boot. Cute. (and people thought the Patriot Act was bad, just let the democrats loose and see what happens to your, heh, "civil liberties"!) Chockblock
How refreshing to read pages of politics and not hear the word "neocon" repeated every sentence. I was raised by Demo parents, but took a hard right after considering what commies Dems were turning into. Communism/socialism does not work, never has. However that is Obama's aim, total control by his FedGov, massive taxes, regs out the ass, nothing left for the individual. If you want the FedGov to do everything for you, vote for Dems, if you have or want ANY free will, do otherwise. The FedGov needs to be reduced, 50% would be a fine start, let the States take care of their people. nalgas
The FedGov needs to be reduced, 50% would be a fine start, let the States take care of their people. Well, if that's what you want, you clearly can't vote for either of the major parties. The Democrats have a tendency to increase the size of the government and its spending...but over the past 50-60 years, the Republicans have actually done it even more than them, especially recently (I just woke up and am way too lazy at the moment to cite that, but it's not hard to find charts of stuff like that (federal budget and any surplus or deficit, national debt, job growth or lack of, etc.) over the past several decades). You're basically screwed if you go with either of them and expect or are hoping for smaller government. The Republicans haven't actually stood for that anymore since before Reagan, despite still somehow having a reputation for it. You really have to go all the way out to someone like Ron Paul to find someone who's serious about it (although he's seriously nuts in some other ways, unfortunately). liveoak
I hate to admit it, but Sarah Palin was actually likeable on SNL. That doesn't mean she's qualified to be VP, though. Amy Poehler frickin' ROCKED. I'm amazed that she was SO good, considering she's about to pop that baby right out! I mean she looks like she was due yesterday! That skit where she was dancing in a bar was hilarious. She was also perfect doing the Alaska rap. I thought that Palin changed her voice intentionally for SNL, so that she wouldn't sound exactly like Tina Fey's impression of her. Palin's voice was lower and slower and not very "accented." Always manipulating.
