Weird, switching antidepressants now getting an ED

Recommended Posts

Early weight loss on Cymbalta is common. For a lot of us it was welcome. But then, for a few of us, we gained weight on Cymbalta. I was on it for 9 mos. and gained about 10 pounds.

Yeah I'm happy with the weight loss...

;)

I've gained about 15kgs this year because of stupid Avanza.

Hello. I've had that side effect with a few meds. Fortunately when it happened I had a few pounds to lose anyhow, so I was fine. When I discussed it with the doctor, he said it won't stay that way and he wasn't that concerned unless I got below 100 lbs (I"m 5'4). You do need to force yourself to eat a little bit throughout the day or you risk messing up your health and damaging your metabolism. For you to get better mentally you have to be supplying your brain with nutrients.

Don't worry, it isn't an actual eating disorder, it is just a lack of appetite. I'm sure you are also stressed right now, or you wouldn't need cymbalta. The stress obviously may keep you from wanting to eat. When it happened to me I just forced myself to eat things that I really liked normally. They typically were high calorie and high fat so it helped with my calorie deficit. After a couple months my appetite typically gets back to normal on a new med. So unless you are already under weight, you should be OK. Tell your psychiatrist about it. He may recommend you drink Ensure supplements in the meantime. You probably should also be taking a daily multivitamin, but again ask the doctor. I'm not one.

I lost weight the first month or so on Cymbalta because it made me nauseas. In fact if I take it on an empty stomach, its still does to a minor degree.

As a Peer Support Moderator I officially give you permission to make an extra sandwich or have some Ben & Jerry's late in the evening.

Hope you do better, a.m.
