the news...depression

Recommended Posts

I am going to start off by telling everyone that if I am talking out of my A&% tell me please...I am unmedicated and have a thousand thoughts a second so it doesnt always come out right:)

It seems to me that the news has become more and more depressing, like the producers are now looking for the most violent, gorry, and twisted subjects to broadcast on tv???

Case in point, does everyone in the world need to know about the chinese guy eating a human head on a greyhound? This is down right awful and scary!!! I have become paranoid because of that info

Mother boiling her child..... This makes me cry and really depressed

The shootings in some neighborhood 100 miles from where I live.... jesus

My point is, when did the news become less about news and more about shock factor, the news should be about politics, weather, health, finances. The crap they put on now will make anyone crazy. I can understand informing the public that the cities mayor was using funds to buy a jet ski but not all this other crap, the news is now TMZ!!!!

What is our world coming too....I think that people should stop watching the news and start buying the paper, at least then we can filter what we do want to see/hear

Well, I think the trend towards showcasing the violent stories has been there for years. I don't watch TV at all, and I certainly wouldn't use it as a news source.

You can get access to every major newspaper in the country on the internet. I think reading a newspaper is great, although I prefer the real thing to the computer version. You're right about filtering: I let my eyes just glide past the really sickening stuff and I plain don't read it.

I also like newspapers because of the columnists. Our local paper has people writing columns from every shade of the political spectrum, so it's interesting to read all those points of view. If you want thoughtful, intelligent commentary, newspapers are great.

Plus, there are cartoons! heh

I also listen to the radio. In my area, I can listen to everything from Christian radio to far-left-wing college radio. I listen to it all, and get a broad perspective. You can also listen to Public radio if you want to avoid commercials---it will be on the FM band in the low numbers. (usually)

If you find the stuff on TV upsetting, turn it off. The only way to convince broadcasters that we don't want extreme violence and shocking stories is to stop watching so they lose rating points.

I havent watched the news in 4 years, at least, the only thing I watch is the weather on twc. It is awful that the ratings for the news stations is better when they use violent stories as opposed to say a human interest piece.

I love the paper, I thik it is a great thing and the writiing and focus is so much better. The cartoons rock!

I think that the actual news on tv is actually contributing to the violence, becasue it is almost...sort of like condoning it

I agree with that. I've seen young people at the scene of an attack all excited because the TV reporters were there, covering it. Seems like some people will do anything for that 20 seconds of air time.
