I've suffered from insomnia for several years now...also perimenopausal. I've had bouts of depression and took SSRIs...but they contributed to the insomnia...took welbutrin and that really was uneventful and kept me awake too. I and am presently not medicated but coping well except for sleep deprivation. Got addicted to ambien after 3 years and had a miserable time getting off of it. Tried lunesta, remarin, melatonin 10 mg sublingual (helps to get me to sleep but not keep me asleep), passion flower, somulin, benadryl (ack! wake up soooo depressed!)...tried lexapro and had what I think was a pretty manic reaction with insomnia, racing thoughts, wicked brain zaps and just plain felt nuts (more than usual).

Spoke to the doc about possibly being bi-po but no major episodes that have led to really bad consequences...brother is bi-po and finally medicated and he is a different person. Just struggling with this as a possibility.

Soooo, long story to ask if anyone is taking seroquel for sleep and does it work? Are the side effects from 25 mg or even 12.5mg really, really bad? How hard is it to stop if it creeps me out?

thanks! It's my first post here but I have been lurking.

I have similar history. I'm not bi-polar. I take 100mg at night for sleep. It works like a charm, for me. I tried trazedone and that was horrible. Really bad nightmares, didn't really sleep, wicked hangover. Seroquel, OTOH, puts me OUT. I wake up pretty well (never have been a morning person,) and I've adjusted to the hangover part. It dissipates pretty fast depending on my level of activity. I also think I'm getting a bit of added benefit in the mood stabilizing department.

Welcome!
