Seroquel lawsuit?

Recommended Posts

So, I was vegging out in front of the TV just now - surfing the net and trying to digest this awful buffet-style restaurant food - when I hear: "Have you or a loved one... Seroquel... diabetes..." Of course, I looked up and there's a big, garish, thing on my TV about Seroquel and diabetes - and a phone number for a lawyer.

The hell? Can they sue for that? I mean, it's clearly listed as one of the side effects, so they cannot say that the company did not give full disclosure that someone could develop diabetes if they take Seroquel.

I thought there were clear guidelines when it comes to these things. Maybe I'm wrong, but something smells fishy about that.

I have heard of people in the States suing due to the above. My pdoc here in the UK knows someone who specialises in diabetes and related endocrinological stuff. He stated that he was convinced this came out of the weight gain that AAPs can cause. They both think it's the insatiable hunger issue that causes the weight gain too, mostly.

That would even make me think twice about it being listed as a side effect, as the diabetes seems to be a side effect of a side effect ! (in this case, weight gain). However, I suppose they now have to cover their backs for everything.
