Do you feel mania coming?

Recommended Posts

In the last week or so, I've just noticed some sort of shift in my being. I have energy, I'm vain, I'm chatty. Like, suddenly. I was just diagnosed bipolar in September, and I had a 2 year long mania a few years ago before I knew what it was. It feels like that. I feel a little lost on this one. I just moved and had 1st appt. with a doc that doesn't know me today. Not much help.

So folks, in your experience, do you feel a palpable shift?

I don't like me manic ;) The thought makes me cry, adding to confusion.

Ahh, bipolar: you're so cool ;0

Hi Fluffybirdie, I feel it too. It's comes as either a building of excitement, and childish stupidity - giggling at anything, flushed in the face. Like a few glasses of champagne. Before long I'm staying up cleaning the walls & ceilings. Or in the case of in dysphoric mania, increasing agitation, impatience with others.

From your Rx it doesn't sound like you're on anything specifically targeted at mania? Perhaps it's time to get an add-on from your doc (of perhaps a different doc by the sounds of it?), before you go to far into it? Seroquel wipes any hint of mania for me very quickly.

Good luck!

i can definitely feel when the mania creeps in. that's when i take my prn Zyprexa, or call my pdoc. I've been stable for over two weeks now, and I'm loving how it feels. Do call your doc, you should have a mood stabilizer in your cocktail if the BP dx is correct.

I can always tell when I "shift gears" by when my sleep patterns change. If I start not getting tired until really late at night with no "stimulation" and wake up feeling rested for a couple of days in a row, I know I'm shifting into mania. For me personally, I can tell this easier than my emotions or actions, because for some reason, I tend to ignore those until it is too late and I'm full-blown manic.
