He wrote regularly for the magazine "the new yorker" and i always enjoyed reading his articles. he also wrote a lot of books. he was old....but its still weird for him to be dead. **side note is that im having a lot of problems with "death" so i may be looking at this from a different perspective. db Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
fuchsia groan Posted January 27, 2009 Share Posted January 27, 2009 *sniff* I know he was old, but that still makes me really sad! The Rabbit Angstrom novels have gotten me through rough times. I happened to have just started Rabbit, Run around the time of my first miscarriage (a devastating one with massive internal bleeding and emergency surgery), and inched my way through the books as I slowly recovered, and found them uncannily soothing, distracting, and downright marvelous. I picked them up again after my second miscarriage. And again, just for a treat (without any life crises!), not that long ago. blackbird Posted January 28, 2009 Share Posted January 28, 2009 I'm a massive Updike fan and I have been dreading this for some time. I knew the man wasn't going to live forever. Hands down the greatest American writer there has ever been. I have my copy of 'The Widows of Eastwick' yet to read. Eternal rest grant onto him oh Lord and may perpetual light shine upon him.
