The people who work at Social Security SUCK BALLS!

First off, it's been OVER A YEAR since my guy's worker's comp ended!! Social security is giving him about $900-$1100 LESS than it should be each month. They owe backpayment up the ass! These fucktards kept sending paperwork to the wrong people, and telling dh that everything was being processed! He finally does the legwork HIMSELF to be sure the right people get the right forms. Now they say it is being put in for payment! He goes there almost every day (almost no gas to keep going at this point!) They tell him the same thing. The lady who is heading his case never answers her phone and HAS NOT ONCE called him back when it says "you will get a call back within 24 hours!" So he bothers the staff at the office and they keep saying there is no more they can tell him and it's being put into payment! I'm surprised we have electricity, cable and internet. We can't pay another bill or put any more gas in the car until he gets his $.

We might have to go to the devil herself, my mother, to borrow money AGAIN! We just borrowed $200 last month! I AM SO UPSET and his lawyer he had to get the SSDI in the first place has long since signed off on the case, since he got approved a few years ago.

I don't expect any advice, I know there's nothing we can do, but I wanted to verbally bash the person or person's holding this up! ;):)

I wish this wasn't such a familiar story to me....

I'm not surprised you are so angry about this, I would be hopping mad by now and camping out at their office making a total pain in the arse of myself. It sucks big time. Not that I would wish our problems on anyone, but sometimes I do catch myself thinking "yeah, well, you would get off your arse and help me if you had the slightest idea what it's like to be me" whenever I come across narrow minded selfish "normals" of the sort that usually tend to work in social security. But none of that helps you. You have been incredibly patient and restrained given your situation, good for you for retaining some dignity (unlike I did!) And keep bugging them. You'd think that sometime someone will have to get so pissed with your constant phone calls/visits that they will make it their personal mission to pay you out and get you off their back!

Best of luck, keep at them!

My only suggestion would be to contact your state representative and see if you can get any help there. Sometimes they help with stuff like this. I don't know if they would help with this specifically but it's worth a shot, I think.

I'm sorry you're dealing with all this bullshit.

Scatty, I think Luna has a good idea. Our Congressperson is a real help when things get stuck in the wheels of bureaucracy. I'm sure your representative has an office somewhere in your region. Tell your man to call that office and ask if there is anyone there who can help him get through to the Social Security people. It is unconscionable that his case manager doesn't return his calls.

I'm pissed off about this because it is my tax dollars that are paying the wages of that woman who is NOT helping your man. So call your congressperson's office and ask if they have a consumer advocate or someone who can light a fire under SSA. The thing is, he's entitled to these benefits---it's not like he's waiting to be approved.

Grrrrr

Scatty, one thing you might want to consider is contacting one of your senators, or your member of congress. Helping their constituents deal with things like this is supposed to be part of their job description, and they all have staffers assigned to handling constituent services. I've had friends who got a lot of help with a range of things, from renewing a lost passport (for some reason it was way more complicated than that, but I don't remember why?), to immigration issues.

Thank you! Thank you! I was telling dh about what SunshineOutside posted about an onbudsman(sp?) Contacting the lt. governers (sp?) office was brought up too. I think dh started to actually believe something was happening cuz he contacted the right people, and they said that worker's comp has given them the needed paperwork that shows he no longer receives it. Monday I am having him call some people in government, after all he is a registered voter and if he could work HE WOULD BE WORKING! ARGHHH!

That sounds good, Scatty. I'm sure the ombudsman at the Lt. Gov's office can help you with the Workman's Compensation, because that is administered by the state.

But if the SSA is still ignoring his calls and not returning calls, have him call your congressman's office. Seriously, they will help. He's a citizen---it doesn't even matter if he votes or not. The advocates in a Congressman's home office can kick some serious butt if people get jerked around by Social Security.

I hope you two get some help with this, and get all your retroactive money.

I wanted to update our situation. Our congressman's local office is working on making sure he gets his money. He just had to give them some information. They already called SS who told them the worker's comp. people aren't responding to their requests to sign off. Even though dh has recently contacted WC and been told they did sign off on it! Now why did it take them calling to find out what the problem was? They basically kept lying to dh to make him go away. Like he's going to just forget that they owe him over $10,000 and we live on less than $400 a month. We would be homeless if Sec 8 didn't adjust our rent. The section 8 people do their jobs quickly, they have been great to us and sympathetic to our situation.

So hopefully I can update this thread again soon with good news. Thanks for the great advice everyone!

Wonderful update #2-

Barney Frank's office called and it turns out SS LOST ALL HIS PAPERWORK that he gave them back in April. His lawyer told him to "bring these to SS right away and don't pass go." So my man didn't even make copies of this information. Even though he's been screwed over by EVERYONE in the world it seems he can't get it through his thick skull TO MAKE COPIES! He is super pissed, I am bawling. I don't know how long it's gonna take to have everyone give him the same information so he can get his check straightened out!

And get his damn back pay so we can get up to date on our bills! If not for section 8 we would be living in a homeless shelter. I'm gonna have to find a job somewhere, somehow even though my new pdoc says I'm not ready to "take that step." I want to gouge these people's eyes out and shove them up their ass! We had to borrow my egg donor's (crazy-as-shit mother's) car again cuz ours needs a fuel pump or something. Which is the least of my worries cuz at least kids can get to their activities and we can get to our appointments since my mother works nights we can have the car all day. I still haven't spoken to her though, dh does all the communicating.

So I know it could be a lot worse. I feel like a fuckin' loser bitching and I can't take much more of this shit. Being dicked around. I'm gonna get a job and last maybe a week and they can mail me my check. Maybe babysit for $ but I can barely take care of my kids, so that's a no-go. I feel defeated, like I should just lie down and give up. I'm so useless anyway. We are just gonna pay electricity and rent from now on. And my damn mother can pay for the gas we use from now on.

To make it worse, he just left for the SS office and I hope he can keep his cool or I'm gonna be thinking of who to rob to pay his bail!

Oh man, that sounds like SOMEONE NEEDS TO KICK THEIR ASSES!!!! ;)

I'm getting all worked up on your behalf here! Incompetant ****s who don't give a shit. Is that about right?!

As for your dh. Hindsight(sp?) is such a wonderful thing, but remember that people don't always face up to what they know they should really do, they just cross their fingers and stick their heads in the sand. Like me with any paperwork, phone calls to make, and so on - I procrastinate for England, and just hope it'll all work out in the end. I know it's INTENSELY frustrating, and you now feel pressured into working when you're not ready, but *playing devil's advocate* I can see how he would have overlooked copying everything despite his previous experiences, can you honestly say you're always on top of everything yourself when you're ill?

I don't mean to sound like I'm accusing you of overreacting, cos I'm not. I just think it'd be more healthy for YOU to be able to see and understand how easy it was to fuck up without meaning to. Ya know? None of us is perfect. Ok, some more than others! :)

I hope you can find another option than to put yourself into a worse position by forcing yourself to work. I wish I could offer some practical help, but I'm stepping aside now for someone more knowledgeable to chip in :)

It's a little better over here. Dh didn't kill anyone at the SS office. Let's hear a big cheer for klonopin! He found out the lady who was supposed to put it into payment didn't hit "enter" on her computer so it was like his case didn't exist. Funny how we get the real story only after we get politicians involved. Well, she's gonna put it into the computer but says that it may still take a while to get it. Didn't ask dh why this is so.

Dh is dropping off some paperwork SS gave him to the politician's local office in about 15 minutes. Then picking up our little one from after school program. My teen offered to babysit so me and dh can just drive around in circles without having to entertain him (he's ADHD without meds for now, so he's very active and talkative.) Have I mentioned how awesome my kids are? They are the reason we keep going.

I didn't mean to diss my man, but I'm just frustrated with all this considering it's been going on for a year! They told him his benefit would be 900-and-something dollars and I'm not even sure that is right. Maybe they weren't counting the money the kids get. I thought it would be around 1200-1400, but dh did get hurt at age 28, so maybe it is right. It's still a hell of a lot better than the 300 and odd dollars we've been trying to live on!

Please send good thoughts our way and healing vibes. It couldn't hurt!

Scatty, I'm glad to hear that Frank's office helped you out. I can't imagine how frustrating this all is for you. Keep hanging on and make sure that the congressman's office is aware that you guys will be owed retroactive money.

Yes, olga, I have to make sure he mentions the retro pay. Damn, I always think it's a given, like I don't even think to mention it, but dh is under a lot of stress so I will be sure he mentions it. I thought it was the retro check that they are putting into payment-just assumed- I hope!

He has been in contact with Frank's office this morning and they said it went through with no problem- into payment. So hopefully it is retro and his new monthly amount as well. If it's not retro you can bet Frank's office will be right on it, the lady there was sooo helpful and nice. She said "thank goodness you called here when you did cuz they didn't even have you're name in the computer!" I can't believe they just lied out their asses for almost a year at the SS office. Like he wouldn't notice??!!!

DB- If we didn't have section 8 we would be homeless right now. They adjusted our rent to $50 a month and my complex has heat, hot water and cooking gas incl. in rent so we pay electricity, and a bundled package from comcast w/phone, cable and internet. Dh paid off his car insurance in full back in the summer cuz the finance charge is $4 a month if you take the installment plan. Thank goodness for that! We had to buy gas, but we know where all the cheapest places are! Plus a dear friend gave us $100 recently so we would be sure to have gas to get to our pdoc. We also used it to make partial payment to electic co. and comcast- they agreed to keep us connected another 30 days. Everyone is being nice except the damn SS people. Now we know why they have an armed guard there!

Thank you ladies for reading and supporting and posting and everything! I had a dream 2 nights ago that we got the money. Usually my subconscious knows more than I do, so I see it as a good sign!

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE GOOD WISHES, I think they really helped!

YET ANOTHER UPDATE:

The lady helping us left another message today. She said his new SS monthly amount and his retro pay have been calculated. She gave the amounts and it sounds correct. I found out he will be getting substantial checks for the kids in retro and monthly, of course. So his total monthly amount will be enough to live on. I am so excited! I love the nice lady who advocated for us.

So if SS is dicking you around- get your congressman's local office a call to see results. Here's a link to find your state's congressmen: Contact the Congress

Thank you to all who have been so supportive. I appreciate having a safe place to bitch about this!

THE MONEY HAS BEEN DEPOSITED! ;)

Olga, Yes, we always have voted Frank. He's been in office since the early 80's, so apparently a lot of others vote Frank (democrat) too!

We are celebrating by paying off our bills and my mother. Then pizza!

I feel like a weight has lifted off of us. We even had daytime sex! WOO HOO!

Mrs maz, I'm glad that lady rode their ass like she did! She has done what we haven't been able to in OVER A YEAR!

I am happy to say this will be my last post in this thread! Thanks again all!
