mbrational
I might soon get the chance to try the extended release version of Seroquel and since my doctor has absolutely no experience with this med I`m very interested in reports of people having taken both the IR version and the XR version. Does the dosage stay the same or is there a tendency to have to take more or less of the XR version? How does the Xr feel different from the IR, especially for people who have to take the IR version more often then once a day? Thank you, Markus

How does the Xr feel different from the IR, especially for people who have to take the IR version more often then once a day? Thank you, Markus Hi I was put on the XR version in December. I haven't changed the dose and I used to take all my IR dose at night anyway, so someone else might be able to advise you on the last part of your question. The great thing about it is that I don't have this horrible jolt of panic, racing heartbeat, unpleasant sedation and nasty hypnagogic visions/feelings of sensing evil and darkness(almost like an additional form of illness in itself!) that I would have if I stayed up late after taking the dose. I really dreaded bed time as a result and managed to minimise it by taking it when I was pretty sleepy, at the last minute. I reckon those side effects occurred on the IR version due to the serum levels peaking after taking the dose, as opposed to the steadier action of the XR version. Anyway, I don't get this on the XR and that's a wonderful thing.
mbrational
Thank you for answering. How long after taking your IR dose did you get those unpleasnt side effects?
Amy10
Thank you for answering. How long after taking your IR dose did you get those unpleasnt side effects? Hard to remember but I would say at the earliest half an hour and at the latest an hour and a half. Are you already on the IR?

mbrational
Thank you. The reason that it is so hard to get for other indications might be financial. 2011 Seroquel IR will become generic and then they don`t want all the patients to be on the ER (just my pdoc and me speculating). Good luck to you.
