hollywoodfreaks
I have started taking Cymbalta again after quite a long while. I went off it because it seemed to be raising my blood pressure. Although it wasn't extremely high, it qualified as clinically high blood pressure, which is unusual for someone in their late twenties. The problem? The Cymbalta was doing a really good job in the antidepressant department. I've tried other things and I'm sick of constant low-grade depression so I'm trying it again. We're monitoring my blood pressure this time and increasing the dose slowly and cautiously. Really what my questions are are: 1--Is there evidence that Cymbalta causes high blood pressure in some people, 2--Do they have any idea of how frequent the liver damage/failure thing is? I mean, I'm taking other meds processed by the liver. Should I get my liver levels tested like every 3 months? Thanks.
Thomas
I've been on Cymbalta for over a year now (120 at first and then 90 because of insurance weirdness) and my blood pressure has been good. Don't know about the liver deal though. Tommy
olga
I was on Cymbalta for 9 months and it did not raise my BP. My doctor checks my liver function every 6 months and it was fine. Cymbalta is being taken by hundreds of thousands of people---I would think that serious side effects like that would show up in blogs or in the news. olga
hollywoodfreaks
Yeah, I'm not extremely worried or anything, but I have seen a lot of anecdotes about high BP and a few about liver damage as well. I don't think Cymbalta was released that long ago, so we might not have a full picture of it yet. It reminds me a bit of the whole Serzone thing. I'm just a little concerned because I take quite a few drugs that are processed by the liver and...yeah. I guess I'll just need to get my liver tested and keep an eye on the BP. Crossing my fingers that the BP thing doesn't happen this time, but it was real. There is no doubt in my mind that Cymbalta raised my BP the first time I took it. My doctor isn't going to let me stay on it if it does again, and he seems to be against adding a blood pressure med. He won't let me try Effexor or Pristiq either. Lame.
