Moso
I have been on anti-psychotics for the last three years. First Risperdal and now a much lower dose of Seroquel. I was given them for paranoia and socialphobia. I originally started at 2mg of Risperdal and am now down to 25mg of Seroquel. I just finished college, a major source of my social anxiety. I am at the point where I feel a lot less paranoid and more comfortable in social situations. I would like to get a girlfriend since I'm 29 and have never had one. The problem is, ever since I started this medicine, I have trouble thinking. I have trouble even holding a conversation with my own family. It's not a matter of anxiety, I just can't THINK. I told my psychiatrist and he says these are very powerful medications and the effects could be lingering. GREAT. How long am I going to be like this? Velvet Elvis
It's hard to know what's the lingering effect of a medication and what's the effect of mental illness. MI can have a lasting effect on your brain as well. I've never heard of either seroquel or risperdal having any lasting cognitive side effects. If you're having problems thinking and carrying on a conversation there is likely something else still going on. Once you stop taking the meds the effects should be gone within a few weeks.
