#$@(*# hell! I'm on Seroquel, have been for some time now. Over the last week or so I have noticed involuntary tongue movements, like a sliding around my mouth & then a smacking/clicking thing. Just a few times but completely unexpected. Sitting at my desk at work so quite embarrassing really.

I am terrified this is TD. My next psych appointment is in 5 weeks & I have called but there is no option to get in early. My GP however can coordinate with my psych over the phone & implement his advice.

I'm sure I don't need an answer to this, but does this sound like TD? And please please tell me it is true that most TD from atypicals is reversible? In this situation would they normally pull you straight off the med concerned?

I am of course definitely booking into my GP but it takes a few days to get in. In the meantime I hope some answers here will stop me losing sleep about this. Thanks guys.

I don't know if it's TD or not, but I do know that TD sometimes goes away and can sometimes be helped by switching to a different antipsychotic. I would also leave messages now with your pdoc and tdoc describing the problem, if you haven't done so.

Yeah...lip smacking, tongue movements...

My GP however can coordinate with my psych over the phone & implement his advice.

That's great! That's all that needs to be done at the moment.

TD doesn't become permanent after just a few days or even weeks...

TD is VERY reversible when caught early.

Decreasing doses is sometimes enough but that is most often true when titrating up. I'm not sure about after prolonged use, though. That's been my experience anyways..

Just try to relax...I know it's easier said than done but you are doing the right thing by alerting your docs ASAP.

Thanks Resonance and N&P. I will see the regular doc during the week, & she will call the pdoc.

It's happened again, so I think I need to get off SQ sooner rather than later. I have actually been titrating down, btw, (at pdocs direction) with an aim to get off it now my other mood stabilizer is working so well. Could well be good timing!

YEP (rolls tongue & smacks lips, while head twitches), it is TD, and from Seroquel.

I saw the doc today & she confirmed with the p-doc. I have to get off Seroquel altogether. Not replacing it with anything as my mood stabilizer is working now.

Because the TD symptoms were causing me major embarrassment (try giving a presentation to a board of executives knowing it might happen!), I actually started tapering down further of my own accord during the week - from 300, to 200, then 100mg. Yes, bad me, but no issues from the doc or p-doc that I'd taken this step fortunately. Tonight I take 50mg, probably again tomorrow. Then zero. I have Monday off work so if I have any issues, agitation etc I can deal with it at home rather than work. I have sleepers too, because before Seroquel I couldn't sleep.

So, here we go! I'm hoping it's not too rough. 300 to 100 wasn't, but going off it altogether could be different.
