christineg
So far I have been on both Pristiq and Lexapro which both worked very well for me with the exception of a weird side effect that caused chest pain So now I'm being switched to Wellbuterin as it is a totally different classification of drug. Has anyone had experience with all of these? What did you think of them? Did the Wellbuterin work as well for you as the other two?
celestia
Don't know about Pristiq but I'm on a Lex/Wellbutrin combo now that is working a hell of a lot better than either alone did. Wellbutrin alone was too activating for me. Lexapro worked meh/okay for me as an AD for a year or so, but then pooped out.
icebird200
Lexapro = better for anxiety Wellbutrin = better for energy level, worse for anxiety ...both are good for depression
icebird200
For me, SSRIs either make me manic or don't really work, while I've had success with Wellbutrin in the past. However, you're not going to know until you try it because every person is different with how they react to medications. Also, both the drugs you've been on act on serotonin-- and if that happens to be what you're needing in your brain, Wellbutrin may not do it for you because it effects different neurotransmitters. It's a good antidepressant for a lot of people, so it's definitely worth a shot. If Pristiq and Lexapro worked for you, I'd be more inclined to see how Cymbalta or another SSRI worked for you and if they caused you chest pain or not. However, I can see your doc's logic if both and SSRI and an SNRI caused the chest pain. I'd also request to get a full workup by a cardiologist. Just to be safe. SNRI's(pristiq) have been noted to cause chest pain more than SSRI's (lexapro). Ever tried zoloft? It's good for people who get chest pain as a side effect (low chance of causing it). It's never a good thing when a med is causing chest pain. See a cardiologist just in case, if you feel the need to...
