icebird200
Seroquel has been sugested to me for racing thoughts and anxiety. Zyprexa as well. So I wan't to ask, are these good options to mix with risperidone? and for what symptoms do they help the most? Either from personal experience or just an opinion you might have... PS: Do any people take THREE AAP's? I have heard of ppl on 3 mood stabalizers (Lithium, Depakote and Tegretol)
gizmo
I take three mood stabilizers right now, though I can't tell you how long it will last. I take lithium for general "coverage" and have taken it for three years. Makes me thirsty as hell and gives me the shakes sometimes (level is 0.8, so it's fine). I take Geodon for AAP depression coverage since I don't take an AD due to my BP rapid cycling. I've taken Geodon since September. I also take zyprexa right now. I take it to calm the hell down. I get dysphoric manias, and zyprexa is, for me, the only thing that stops it. My dysphoric manias include massive racing thoughts (about five sets at once, actually - I call them "trains of thought") They also include severe anxiety so bad I not only don't leave my house, I don't leave the first floor of my home. I must say, for me, zyprexa is my most effective med in terms of anxiety, agitation, and panic control. But that's for my BP brain, YMMV. My pdoc doesn't want to get rid of the geodon because of the depression coverage issue. We'll have to wait and see on that one. I took risperdal for 18 months. I had to get off of it because it raised my prolactin level to that of a nursing mother. Not good for a girl on a long-term basis. I'll be honest with you, I was so fried during that time, I don't really remember much of how it helped me. I wasn't stable, though. I was on a bunch of meds during the same timeframe, sorry. AnneMarie
I've been on Geodon with a sleeping pill dose of Seroquel... but my Geodon period didn't last long. As you can see in my footer, I take a handful of meds but most are lower doses and only one is an AAP. I'm curious, why wouldn't you raise Risperdal instead or switch AAPs or add Lithium or an anticonvulsant? There are people who have to take two APs but it's generally avoided if possible due to increased risks for EPS or TD.

We actually did raise the risperdal already.

I totally understand that "severe anxiety" your talking about. I have to take risperdal and klonopin at the same time when that happens. But, I'm still a little "mood swingy" my doc doesn't think it's BP though.

icebird200
I'm on invega and abilify... it's okay.. haven't noticed any bad interactions. My pdoc thinks Invega is the shiznit! It's supposed to be a purer (is that a word?) form of risperidone. The long acting release is a nice addition too. I asked him for it, he wants me to see how I do on risperdal first. I have SEVERE SEVERE racing thoughts 24/7 without the Risp. Invega might be ideal...?
papertrees
yeah. try invega. it's very good. I'm on 6mgs. Supposedly the timed-release allows for smoother administartion of the drug over 24 hours. And it's non-sedating too. Haven't noticed any bad side effects from it. I'm also on abilify and lamictal. My pdoc didnt put me on risperdal, he said "why will I put you on risperdal if we can go straight to its active metabolite?"
