Lexapro increase from 5 to 7.5 or 10 mg?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I started taking 5 mg once a day in the morning for a couple weeks. I don't really notice any

dramatic change yet.

My pdoc said "Work your way up to 10 mgs".

In your ppl's opinion would it be safer to do 7.5 mg for a couple weeks?

Or should I just go straight to 10?

...Just wondering

Is it OK to split the dose of lex to twice a day? Or no?

It might not hurt to check w/ your doctor, but I went from 5 to 10 mg directly. I was also at the time in a day program, so I'm not sure if they went more quickly than usual because of the extra supervision.

I've heard of people splitting the dose (I didn't), so I'd assume it's safe...but same disclaimer of it might not hurt to just double-check.

You could split the pill, which is easier if it's scored, but I've been known to split pills into quarters if need be.

I tend to go up very slowly on all medications, so if you're more comfortable going in baby steps like that and it's okay with your doctor, try it. Splitting the pills will be the biggest problem if they aren't scored.

Thanks,

Splitting the pills into quarters? Try EIGHTHS...

I'm the master of pill splitting.

PS Talked to my pdoc, we decided 7.5mgs for a while.

Doesnt some wierd european company make 7.5 tablets or something?
