Hypersomnia, help!

Recommended Posts

I cannot wake up. I've had sleep issues all my life but this is out of hand. I had chronic fatigue syndrome in my 20's but it cleared up when I had my son 13 years ago, maybe it's back. I have recently had a sleep study done and see a specialist who is forever tinkering with my meds to try to get me a good night's sleep, which I don't feel is the problem. I sleep about 9 or 10 hours a night and then sleep for about 5 or 6 hours during the day. I am ALWAYS tired, I can always fall asleep, and I'm just so fucking tired of being tired. I am sleeping my life away. I recently switched from Zyprexa to Seroquel and find that on the Seroquel I have even more trouble waking up the next day. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Have you also had the day study (MSLT) done? If not, I would see about getting that. Susan mentioned Provigil and I have heard it can be a big help, as can some of the ADD meds like Ritalin.

I know how you feel as I am in the same boat and asked for a referral for sleep studies myself.

Sorry you are sleeping so much. Let us know how you are doing.

I've only been taking it for a month so maybe I haven't adjusted to it yet.

The sleep study said that I don't get much REM sleep, the doc says it's a symptom of c-ptsd. I did both the overnight and day study. I haven't kept a sleep diary, that's a good idea. I will ask my doc about Provigil, I would try anything to be able to stay awake all day long.

I saw my doc today and he doubled my Seroquel dose. He thinks that I am not sleeping properly at night and that is why I can't stay awake during the day. I hope it works, I feel like lukewarm crap.
