Is there any chance that an increase in mood swings (doesn't seem hypomanic yet, but concerned that it might be heading in that direction) could be due to increasing Lamictal doses? Or is it more likely because I'm not at a good dose yet? It's worked wonderfully for me before, so the hope is that it'll kick in once I get back to that dosage.

Another Lamictal & Risperdal user here. I never found Lamictal all that activating (or sedating), and it has never caused any more cycling. I did a pretty slow titration, don't know if that makes any difference.

I agree with Susan's idea of possibly upping the risperidone. Your sig says you're taking it PRN - maybe it should be a daily thing now if you're feeling more unstable. I really like that med - like your sig says, it is major brain glue & calmer-downer! And for me, even taking it daily, it's an "invisible" drug once I get used to a given dose: no side effects, just a bit more stability, and an easy sleep.

thanks everyone...when my pdoc gave me the script for the risperidone, he said that it could be an every night thing if needed while we're adjusting stuff, so maybe he saw this one coming. he wrote it for enough that i wouldn't have to call in unless i was concerned. i've taken the higher dosage that's prn (1 mg) for the past two nights and I feel like I'm at a much more stable place. I might do that for a few more nights and then see if I can go back on the 0.5 mg again...and then go back to only if needed. I'm not sure if I'm out of the woods yet, but it feels a lot better.

My moods were all over the place titrating up on lamictal, from 25 incrementally up til I got to 150mg. Now on 200mg and things are level.

I would get depressed shortly after each new increase. Then slightly hypomanic, almost til it was time for the next increase. It was a strange time adjusting but all is good now.
