icebird200
I really believe I need a mood stabalizer again. I have very impulsive moodswings where I say things that are over the top, and perhaps excessive and irrational, and feel guilty later. I lose my temper very easily and I get massive sensory agitation. I have the kind of mood swings that I feel kinda crappy for a few hours then ok for 2 hours, then fine for 1 hour (very erratic moodswings) Depakote worked, but was too harsh for me to take long term, and I dunno about tegretol?....... mayybe lithium? Could lamictal be the last med in my cocktail? I'm very attracted to this drug. I would love to hear any opinions about lamictal! ...Yes, I'm in therapy. My pdoc and therapist communicate very well. later...
scatty
The thing about lamictal is that it takes so damn long to tirate to a theraputic dose. It may be a good idea to have another faster acting med to handle the agitation. Maybe the irritability has something to do with making your risperdal prn? Just a thought. Lithium is fairly fast acting. I'm sure your pdoc will have more ideas.
icebird200
Maybe the irritability has something to do with making your risperdal prn? Just a thought. It was actually my idea, so the pdoc said ok. (was this a bad move on my part?) What's the connection with risperdal prn causing agitation? I always experience the agitation when I wake up. Like I just can't be bothered. I feel like screaming at the top of my lungs some mornings... As for the pdoc, yeah can't wait to see him. I'm not bipolar but I get moodswings which is weird, so... meh
scatty
Well, risperdal is most likely not causing the agitation, but if you took it every day it might keep the agitation away. As in, be constant in your blood stream. It helps me so much, but if I took it just when I was feeling agitated, it would already be too late. Maybe something to talk to your doc about. Definitely ask about lamictal and other mood stabilizers. They can be very helpful, even if you aren't dxed with BP.

Seems like half of the people on this forum are on lamictal, I was wondering if there was something to it?! You know what my pdoc does. If somebody isint doing good on SSRI's he will switch them to Lamictal and it usually works,... interesting...
scatty
Yeah, when lamictal works, it works well. It makes me calm and stables me out a lot. It just takes so long to tirate up, but if you're patient it's worth it. Good luck on it!
